Venomous
Graphics look clean and crisp. Free is a good thing I'd never pay for all that but surely it's wasting alot of sony's time and cash I don't see the need for this just release more games and make more features on the ps3 forget home. Make a better Store etc. Make the console cheaper instead of making Home I can thinkg of hundreds of things to do instead of Home.

Wow that looks really neat for some reason and really makes me want a PS3...since until now I haven't had a reason until GT5. I am curious though, when this goes live, will everyone logged on be available for interaction in your space as well? Or just your friends? +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 30, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 30, 2007 amazing! looking forward to this. will there be an open beta in near future? First rumour was 29th, but that was obviously shot down. Next date for another rumour is december the 6th. Phil said an open beta November/December 2007, and the rumours sprung from this picture Source: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstatio...thread.id=80289 The idea first of all being open beta on the rls of Pain (icon next to the home icon) which was yesterday, the 29th. Next theory it being the 6th as that would be the next store update.
XerXis
hmmm, looks nice, but still not a fan, i hate the idea of second life and i hate the idea of home, why would i do that if i can go out with some friends in real life ;)

It's a virtual gaming community. The snooker/bowling ect are just tacked on extras/mini games to waste time. Plus, I can't exactly visit most of my PS3 PSN friends as they live around the world ;) Mark Rein posted some comments on the idea of Home taking over as a games lobby for most games and made a good point that it would streamline every PS3 title to launch in the same way, and reduce time spent by developers trying to come up with suitable lobbies/game matchmaking systems. What are we meant to see in that picture, Audio? It's all blurry :s First icon is Home. One on the right is Pain. Pain was released yesterday (29th), therefore people assumed Home Open Beta on the same day. As that was shot down (actual member of Sony staff posted), people are now moving to the 6th as it's the next store update. If you go by that picture the Home download is added on the same day as Pain/or it's the next piece of content to be added in the next store update. It just seems so much overkill to me, but maybe i'm getting to old for this kind of things :p
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted November 30, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 30, 2007 maybe, but what advantage does a 3D environment have above the normal text based im's and game launchers. It just seems so much overkill to me, but maybe i'm getting to old for this kind of things :p Of course it is a personal taste issue as to whether or not you'll use Home (Y) XMB can be used for those who don't want to enter Home. I guess Sony are going down a popular route, and trying to implement something on a console that does extremely well OVERALL on the PC. Games like WoW, and communities like Second Life are populated with MILLIONS of people - Either using them for gaming related content/features or using them for the social side of things. To extend on the social aspect, people love sites like Myspace, Bebo and Facebook to create a virtual space for themselves that ties into their personality, and then message/talk to other people around the world. Home is looking to enter the market in a slightly different way. It takes ideas used and tested that work well and adds ideas that tie into the PS3, that you could only see in Home. I speculated my ideas of what could happen on the board at one point... one of them being imagine in In-Home E3 2008/2009... where you enter a space made especially for E3 and see presentations/videos and then get to discuss them by text/voice with others. I'm sure game's developers and companies will host special events as well. Even the small things such as Christmas, Easter/Halloween in Home will be cool to see enviroments change, special content added. Possibilites are only limited to what Sony end up adding, and I wouldn't judge these empty, early beta's as being anywhere near what we will get come launch - I'd bet on the internal build of Home Sony are working on being much more advanced than this... But yeah, I do know it is down to your taste... although I think it's safe to say, as it's free the majority of PS3 owners will download and at least have a look around (Y) You've got nothing to lose in that sense. TDQuiksilver
Although some Americans will shrug this off as "overkill" and a "glorified Second Life" ... can you imagine how the Japanese will gobble this up? It's fun to mess around with... can't wait 'til the rest of you are all in and it's live.
Venomous
will be cool to check it out but it's like sims. although Sims is addictive.
Novaoblivion
I dont think that image proves much as Home simply shows up as the first thing on the list if you are in the beta so anyone who is in the beta could have taken that picture. Ji@nBing
I guess it looks kind of neat, if pointless. I would play with it for about half an hour and then get bored of it. Totally not into that kind of thing (hate The Sims and Second Life). I don't think this will do much, if anything to capture the "casual market". The PS3 is just too expensive. It costs $100 more than the Wii, and less than the PS2 at the same time in its lifecycle...People need to stop complaining about price.

It costs $100 more than the Wii, and less than the PS2 at the same time in its lifecycle...People need to stop complaining about price. $100 is a lot to the casual market. And it's more like $130. To the casual gamer, $400 feels like a lot more than $270. Plus, look at the momentum the Wii has in the casual market. I don't expect Home to put much, if any of a dent in that. The casual market is a "new" market though. There are still 120 million PS2 owners out there to be attracted over as well as some potential in the casual market. The PS3 is starting to come down to prices the PS2 was sold at. Also I still feel Home is more similar to Myspace/Second Life and all these insanely popular social communities than the Wii will ever be. So maybe the PS3/Home can effectively tackle a new part of the casual market in its own merit?
Iain
Perhaps I'm the only sad loser here then that REALLY wants to use this! I've always wanted an environment such as this on my console, and it's finally here!
Boz
I don't know.. but watching those videos.. I see this as a complete waste of time really. No way I'm gonna sit there for hours walking through PS3 Home.. ha ha.. I'd rather be playing games or going out.. but I guess some people need it. I think this type of software makes even more damage to real life social interaction. It looked pointless as an idea before, and it looks even more pointless now, but I guess some people like it and you really can't beat free, though I think that it wouldn't be really realistic to expect that you won't be bombarded with advertising through this, especially since it's free.
