Home Closed Beta for PS3 - Walkthrough Videos - NDA? Whats that?

Recommended Posts

I don't know.. but watching those videos.. I see this as a complete waste of time really. No way I'm gonna sit there for hours walking through PS3 Home.. ha ha.. I'd rather be playing games or going out.. but I guess some people need it. I think this type of software makes even more damage to real life social interaction.

It looked pointless as an idea before, and it looks even more pointless now, but I guess some people like it and you really can't beat free, though I think that it wouldn't be really realistic to expect that you won't be bombarded with advertising through this, especially since it's free.

This made me laugh - coming from the guy who wants to watch special features on hd-dvd rather than the movie itself.. :p

I want special features on movies as they have very specific purpose and because a lot of people like them. I'll shock you when I tell you that I actually don't watch a lot of features either on movies (in general), I started watching them with Transformers for example or when they have specific information like Blood Diamond about the whole Africa ruthlessness and facts that are very interesting and shown through online access on your player. These are cool as you actually learn something too. But I support anything if there's people wanting it.

Home serves similar purpose but is realy pointless. What's the point of your dressing up your character or setting up a room? I fail to see the purpose. I need and support things that have usability. Everything that's in HOME is pretty much fluff. It's gamer's my crib looks cooler then yours and nothing else. I support game trophy room only in the whole thing as it serves a purpose of showcasing what games you have so you can play them together (I hope that's how it will work).

The difference my friend is that I give my opinion, but I never said, oh just skip Home cause "I don't need it". If there's people wanting to play around with Home, so be it, I'll be happy to see it on PS3, but for a gamer who wants to play games, Home can hold interest for about couple of days and then you'll be most likely wanting something simple, quick and intuitive to rapidly communicate with people or compare games, something like..umm.. Xbox Live? Again, Home looks like a lot of fluff with little essence.

But again, it's free, so it's completely irrelevant. Better to have it and not install it (use it) then not to have it at all. Do you see how this approach is much better then "I don't like it or need it so it's pointless"?

The PS3 is starting to come down to prices the PS2 was sold at.

Yes but it wasn't until the larger price cuts that people started to pick them up on a whim. Though granted they are working I just picked one up for only ?255 for drakes and Ratchet!:pp

Also I still feel Home is more similar to Myspace/Second Life and all these insanely popular social communities than the Wii will ever be. So maybe the PS3/Home can effectively tackle a new part of the casual market in its own merit?

Yes it's similar to myspace/second life but remember you don't need a ?300 pound console for that! The Wii/DS attract the casual market by simple, basic games anyone can play. While still being cheap and attractive. Home doesn't remove the fact that the console is used to play games like Drakes and Resistance you still have to:

A) Have an interest for these types of games. They are fafari> removed from Big Brain Academy.

B) Be proficient in using the sticks simultaneously. Something most casuals can't wrap their head around.

I doubt it will be ever something the casual market will grasp with open hands. The Japanese on the other hand, who I'm sure this is more relevant/aimed to, will love it. As they appear to have a major love for dating sims and dress up games.

MS tried to attract the casual market with the Arcade by re bundling the console and throwing in some free games and it's still not shifting the 360 at a greater pace. I can see this being the same situation for Sony. I commend them on trying though as it does look very very attractive.

First rumour was 29th, but that was obviously shot down.

Next date for another rumour is december the 6th.

Phil said an open beta November/December 2007, and the rumours sprung from this picture

The idea first of all being open beta on the rls of Pain (icon next to the home icon) which was yesterday, the 29th.

Next theory it being the 6th as that would be the next store update.

Anyone in the Beta has Home show up first in the Playstation Store. So ... that's not really evidence.

Also, after being in this Beta since the beginning ... I don't know. I mean, the graphics are good, but I don't find it fun at all. It's just boring walking around, playing arcade games, maybe bowling, pool, whatever. I guess it's really you love it or you hate it. :p

None of the other console's have something like Home.

Both are trying to attract casual gamers through GAMES. Home while made to support games, is still something a little different.

Now while the PS3 is at a higher cost than the others (although it matches top-end 360's now), Home is going to be around for the life of the console. The console will continue to come down in price you know.

I guess we won't know exactly how much of an impact Home will have till the open beta/release.

You're testing an incomplete product.

While it's fair enough for you to add your thoughts on the beta, I seriously doubt it will be anything like that come release. Plus at release is when the public will be able to get in - Things will be much busier.

The mini-games such as bowling/pool/ect won't be the main focus of Home.
