Duo
I need to know how to stop IE from launching, it has caused me lots of adware and troubles. I use Firefox and it's my default broswer, but IE starts with windows update and whenever I click on links of detected adware in Symantec Antivirus. Also my IE privacy settings are set to accept all cookies apparently cause it's hijacked, how do I fix this ( whenever I change it and restart IE it's back again to accept all cookies ) I used hijack this and spybot search and destroy, they removed some threats but the problem persists, a porno website appears whenever IE browses anything. RadishTM Veteran Posted December 3, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 3, 2007 Change your default browser to Firefox via Taskbar and Start Menu Properties. This will open all links in Firefox, however with Windows Update you will an extension such as IE Tab / IE View to open Windows Update in Firefox. Reset IE's default settings via Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button. And also under the General tab, click Delete under browsing history > then Delete All. Welcome to Neowin :) Radish?

winrez
Very Easy turn off the firewall then check for updates, install them and turn the firewall back on (Windows Update cant update itself) after that it should work

I'm way too thankful for this piece of advice, the reset thing works like a charm, no more annoying webpages, and the cookies option is back to default ! But Firefox is already my default browser yet Symantec antivirus insists on laucnhing IE whenever I click on info regarding detected adware. Duo
I have cleaned my system from the 2 adwares infecting it, now Symantec removal tools says both virii are not found on my system, yet, whenever I browse the internet using IE I get re infected !! ( I just visit microsoft.com and their update site ) Any clues ? is it possible that this adware named trojan.vundo could infect my system just when I browse websites that's supposed to be clean and secure ? The only possible cure I have found is resetting IE then blocking it from accessing the internet, or just set security to High and privacy to block all cookies. RadishTM Veteran Posted December 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2007 Did you try this? - http://www.symantec.com/security_response/...-112210-3747-99 Have a look at these two for solutions - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vundo_trojan, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VundoFix. Duo
yes and it says that the trojan could not be detected I also ran a full system scan from the safe mode with system restore disabled as described in symantec's documentation for removing the trojan. After the full scan I restarted and logged to windows and browsed to the registry to delete all possible infected entries but I found nothing, all of the registery keys symantec mentioned couldn't be found. what else should I do ? RadishTM Veteran Posted December 5, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 5, 2007 No problem, you might want to backup your data to be on the safe side and do a clean install if it comes back :) Also install this as a preventive measure - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html Radish?
