PS3 Call of Duty 4 Gets Double XP this Weekend

Recommended Posts

For those of you who've been enjoying the PlayStation 3 version of Infinity Ward's latest epic, Call of Duty 4, the company has some good news: beginning on Friday and lasting through to Monday, multiplayer games will reward double experience, making it even easier to level up and unlock new gear and perks.

While we've been enjoying the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty, PlayStation 3 owners have had a rough time. The multiplayer side of things wasn't quite perfect, as a number of match-making and stat-tracking problems plagued the release. Fortunately, Infinity Ward has been hard at work fixing the problems, and this XP weekend is surely a little apology for the trouble and should spur some winter multiplayer madness.

If you have a PS3 and have yet to pick up the game, you may want to consider this a good excuse. Call of Duty 4 is a great game, and the sequel may suffer if certain suits prevail.

yeah its only for PS3 to make up for the crappy release they did. The 360 and PC releases were great, very minimal problems, and bugs........unless you got it through steam.

Come on, you know you want to enter prestige mode. It stung a little at first but it's just so much fun I didn't care after a few minutes. I'm level 50 now. :D

prestige mode? explain.
yes please do!

When you hit level 55, you have an option to enter prestige mode. What this does is resets all your weapons and perks (its basically like playing for the first time) ... the only difference being is that you get a new emblem besides your name. You can do prestige mode 5 times over.

Reaching 55 has taken me ages - not willing to start all over again..

Id rather just complete all challenges :D

I think you can do prestige mode 10 times over? and then you unlock 2 unknown perks

It's not like ranking up takes a long time. I don't see how this could compensate for the crappy release...

Crappy release?

My mistake, the last time I read the wikipedia article I swear it said 5 times max.

Checked again and you're right.

At Level 55, the player can then gain more XP from the game until they unlock Prestige Mode, which is a feature only available in the console versions of the game due to the fact that the multiplayer ranks and profiles are stored client-side, so it is possible to edit one's ranks and unlocks. In Prestige mode, the player can trade in their rank, all unlocked weapons and completed challenges and start over at level 1, in exchange for a special in-game insignia by their name. The player can then rank up and trade in their rank with Prestige mode again, up to ten times, with a different insignia awarded each time. This effectively gives the player 605 total ranks to achieve.[7] Leaderboard stats (kills, deaths, playing time, etc.) are not affected by Prestige mode.
