Dr. Fanboy or: How I Learned To Stop Thinking and Hate the Game

I know what you mean dude and we aren't much different when you break it down.

We're both similar age and grew up with the same platforms and games pretty much, and like you said the PS1 was the console you grew up with the most and it sparked an interest in Sony and their consoles which continues today. For me I was originally a Sega kid, then I moved to the PS1 and then the PS2. The PS2 didn't live up to my expectations though even though I was a fanboy for quite some time  You wouldn't think it these days ;) Then I moved back to Sega with the Dreamcast (which obv died off) then the Gamecube and finally Xbox. Which is where I've enjoyed gaming the most the past 5 years or whatever it is now.

And like you, I own all the platforms and older ones and love/hate things about all of them. Of course I have my bias towards the Xbox for now, but that won't always be the case I'm sure, it's just the console I get the most from in recent years. Just like DirtyLarry has said in the past also, I don't have allegiance to any console/company. Which people obviously don't bother to read when I post replies and I'm still called an xbot, fanboy or whatever.

I post on Neowin my thoughts and opinions not based on what others think, but what I think, and I don't pick and choose what news to post either. If there was "negative news" for the 360 I would post it just as much as any other news for the console and other consoles.

Thats the beef I have right there stifler.

As DL had to say in the thread I posted an EXACT SAME article in the PS3 section ( https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=605310 ) and look at both topics? Which one has blowen up?

Each console is going to have its shortcomings and I thought "hey, I know these articles are opinions, but maybe if I post them we can all talk about each consoles shortcomings/what we want to see changed?"

You know, have everything in the one topic? But no... some people see it as "flamebait" or a"personal attack". Absolutely downright childish.

I know the two topics could get heated, but we're frickin adults or at least teenagers... is the majority of Neowin too immature to handle criticism/or a clashing of opinions in a respectful manner? I would certainly HOPE not.

I want to re-iterate what I say often - NO CONSOLE is perfect, get over that if you think it is. Come to the realisation that as a gamer you're going to have to take bad with the good (Y) The sooner you do, the sooner you can embrace that fact and have a PROPER discussion in threads like the two I posted - Instead of it turning topics into drivel, crying, personal attacks/threats.

I know you posted the article in both sections, but you still know yourself full well that it would be a flamebait article. Sure it sucks that it's that way, but that's how it is and you still posted it. It's completely fine that you posted it, and people do discuss it. NOBODY here thinks one of the consoles is perfect, they just like a certain one way more than the others in most cases. Don't pretend like people do. The problem with the article you posted is that it's pointing out things that aren't wrong or are just plain false to begin with, instead of stuff that actually makes sense to be wrong (they do that for both the 360 and PS3 article).

Like I said, good discussion happens between the lines quite a lot more often than you might think. Harsh posts are going to happen, and there's nothing that's going to stop them. You need to realize that, and then you need to realize that a community like this one is still better because despite all that (that happens on all forums), most of us in this forum still get along just fine. If we were mostly immature and couldn't handle things, we'd be busy calling each other idiots (and other more personal attacks), instead of calling out things about the consoles and the companies.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the Ninty bit. Go to that section and say something negative about the Wii - you'll get your head bitten off the just the same.

I'd like to see examples of that, please.

The term fanboy gets thrown around alot nowadays i find, and i personally think it requires redefinition.

A fanboy in my opinion, is someone who goes around spouting utterly mindless rubbish, i'm reminded of some goof on youtube describing how "Gaylo is crap" and that the "PS Trizzle will get you laid", or another example would be a real-life friend of mine that insists on calling the PS3 the "gaystation".

Now i'm sure that most of us on here, except the odd lurking fanboy is mature enough to ignore these idiots, and this is what occurs.

But now it seems there is a new breed, a more insideous version, the ones that post these "news articles".

This is where people seem to break down, as because these articles are well-written and do contain the odd fact, there are still embedded biased/sensationalist comments that people spark up at, and at which point tend to divide and polarise the usually coexistant communities.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with critisism, as long as it's constructive because frankly unconstructive critisism is no matter how well you word it, on the same level as the Gaylo/Gaystation comments.

I think a good example of this new fanboyism/bandwagoning is the whole XP/Vista malarkey that is going on currently, although i won't go into that.

I will just end by saying, that in my time lurking this section, that it seems to be well moderated and a platform for good and intelligent discussion when compared to the vast majority of other gaming forums out there, keep up the good work. :)

Why do most people tend to put blind loyalty and so called "fanboyism" in the hardware brands themselves? Why don't they put the so called "fanboyism" in the actual games/titles/software where they belong?

The hardware itself is nothing without the games and having loyalty/faith in a hardware brand is just plain pointless.

When I look at a system I don't see PS3, Xbox360 or Wii, I see what games are currently available that I will actually enjoy and not get bored with in a couple of minutes.

Thus is why I like every system equally because they each have something different to offer that the others don't.;)

I currently have 4 dozen games installed on my PC that I can't be arsed to play because of getting bored with nearly immediately. Theres only relatively few PC games I've enjoyed one of those being Bioshock which is also available on the Xbox 360 as well as Prey, Half-Life 2/EP1 and My Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill games which are available for other platforms.

So I look past the hardware brand and see where the best titles reside. Currently all systems have something t offer me. For me I'd get a 360 for Games like Bioshock, Halo and others, a PS3 for a Twisted Metal game (If there is another one), To get my hands on Silent Hill 5/Re5 before others, God of War definitely looks interesting as well as others and a Wii for Mario Galaxy, Umbrella Chronicles and others.

Note: Sorry if my post is incoherent as I've been going on minimal sleep for a while and am typing this at 1:05 AM in the morning, I at least hope I am making some sense.:p

I liked those Top 10 articles and it's unfortunate that so many people took them as personal attacks on their girlfriend consoles.

Now I must go back to rating all threads in the 'Sony Console' section with one star.

i agree with ayepecks, audioboxers posts are fine and so are munky. They both news concerning both sides of the spectrum, not just negative or positive towards one console. I like their posts as i do learn alot. Sometimes i will post and enter the discussion (or flamewar) but i usually just read because entering most of the discussions aren't worth it.
