Sony Renews the 100 dollar offer! PS3 for $299 a reality!

Recommended Posts

It's been awhile since I wrote anything on the gaming section due to some pretty busy schedules over the past few weeks. But I have to take some times to write about this offer of the Sony Card. Sometimes back in October, Sony has a credit card offer that will allow you to buy a PS3 for 100 dollar off or about 399 at the time. Then they took the offer down as the PS3 received its price drops in November. Now that Black Friday has past and went, Sony has renewed their offer. Here is the ad:

I realise this sorta offer clearly isn't for everyone, but it's something a few people may take advantage of

You do realize that you end up paying more then $399 in case you don't pay off the card right? Due to interests and other crap.. This is why $100 incentive is a no brainer for them cause they'll get more money then in retail for the console.

If someone wants to buy the PS3 and has the cash, then yes this is good, you pick up the card, you get $100 and when you buy the console you pay it off and close the card.

Only beware, usually they will not allow you any additional promotions from Sony if you are already in computer. They are not stupid ya know.

Boz I actually work in a bank, in lending, so I know exactly how CC's work (Y)

There is 12 months interest free (not on all purchases though, only those over $299), so unless you can't control your spending, paying off a PS3 over 12months should be fine for most people - Ideally though save the cash for a PS3, and pay the card off right away like you said.

That is the main point in the deal ;)

As with any credit - the paid cost can be more than the advertised cost if payments are not within the agreed parameters. This can hardly be seen as a bad move on Sony's part. Fair play - I say. Go for it, pay it off, destroy the card.

Affirmative. Though MANY MANY people WILL NOT pay it off in 12 months (due to laziness, they'll forget, or whatever) :) You give people a lot of credit, especially in the US, the land of the free, the brave and the freakin' in-debt-up-to-their-eyeballs-with-horrific-credit-history. :)

For cash, it's a different story. If you had cash to spend right away, then this is indeed a good deal as long you pay it of right away.

Yup (Y)

Still decent offers if

a) You DO plan on paying off either straight away or within 12months (as long as you don't further spend, things will work out fine)

b) You for whatever reason want a Sony CC (Fanboy? ;)), plan on paying off and/or are interested in future deals/rewards you may get with your Sony CC.

If they don't pay it off, then let's call it "idiot tax" - that's referring to people who enter a credit agreement that they are not 100% sure they can pay back in the given timescales!

What the hell. This is an excellent deal. Please don't flame the OP for letting people know this. It's not for everyone, but it can help those who have the means to obtain the card and the mentality to use it responsibly. If you have $400 saved up, it is really not that hard to just pay it off in four months of $100 installments.

Now of course, if the Sony card has some kind of annual fee, then that may eat into the savings somewhat.

Somewhat better, Target has an offer to get any Blu-Ray player (such as teh 40GB PS3) and two movies (from a list, but that list contains 300, Departed, Reaping, Ocean's 13, etc.), and get an instant $100 gift card.

You still pay the $399 + $50 for two movies, but you get $100 in free merch, and no additional payments.

I think this is just another ploy to attempt to get people to buy the $399 PS3. I mean, the new Playstation is awesome, but the price is absurd and everyone knows it. The reason they needed to make a cheaper SKU was to bring in the casual or non-gamer crowd. Unfortunately, this concept all goes down the tube when they REMOVE BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY! I mean, come on, are people so naive that they're buying this crap and saying, no thanks, I'll skip out on the 150 million games that were successful and stick with the dozen or so hardcore PS3-only games? I sure hope not.

I'm buying a PS3 and a bunch of games tomorrow on interest free for 12 months. This is not done with Sony though, it's done with the company I work for, so I'm pretty comfortable with it because I've done countless contracts for other customers. It's good if you're young like me and haven't ever done one, so you have a chance to get good credit history (I plan on only really doing this once, but if it works out, I may use it later for important things such as home appliances if I can't afford them straight away but need them).

you're right.

basically the best and quickest way to build credit history is to buy things on credit and pay them off early.

Yep, but the company my work deals with charges an early fee. :p All sorts of catches that come with interest free, luckily I know pretty much all of them from running through these contracts over and over again...And dealing with the incredibly useless staff on the other end!

But man, the deals over in USA make the deals here sound pathetic :( $899 for the 40gb console, 2 controllers and Ratchet and Clank game...And that is the best deal out of all retailers in the country!
