Boz
Lately I've seen many responses from game developers and Sony too about how people "don't get it", how we are really slow to understand the points, how we are nerds and need to get a life and get laid and all that in some humorous but quite obvious way. I'm sorry, NOBODY has the right to call me this.. NOBODY! I'm not someone they socialize with, I'm not their buddy, I'm not their friend, I PAY THEM money and they need to show some respect to their audience. This is not respect. Corris Veteran Posted December 10, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 10, 2007 Why don't you get a life a get laid then. :) Oooohhh name calling, very mature. :p Lately I've seen many responses from game developers and Sony too about how people "don't get it", how we are really slow to understand the points, how we are nerds and need to get a life and get laid and all that in some humorous but quite obvious way. Did something bad happen to you growing up to have all this hate of such a small comment form people who, get this, don't know you, why should you care what they say? Just ignore it and carry on, unless its going to affect your daily life in any general way, I don't see why you should be so bothered what other people say. They did show "respect" by giving you a DAMN FINE game. Ohhh Boz... maybe you'll re-read this topic one day and realise how badly you're overreacting. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted December 10, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 10, 2007 Okay maybe I wouldn't kick their ass, but the fact is that IT WOULD be a joke if it said "If you read this, you are really a NERD". I wouldn't have a problem with that. What exactly is a joke when they tell you "Get a life and get laid"? I don't see your point. Not getting offended by this shows a lack of self respect. I will not allow anyone to tell me to GET A LIFE. Especially when I'm far more successful then half of their company. I'm 31 and I've been with with a fair share of women, and it's a matter of principle, not my lack of humor. The stereotypical Nerd or Geek is a pimply faced, possibly even obese, loser guy who cannot get laid and does not have a life because they live in their parents basement. Again, this is the age old stereotype. As just pointed out, it is the "pot calling the kettle black." Nothing more than an a "inside joke" made by nerds for nerds. I really see it being as simple as that. Obviously if someone told me to Get A Life that I did not know or respect in the real world, meaning an actual human being and not a video game mind you because I personally tend to separate reality from video games any chance I get, then Yes, as a matter of principle I would be upset. But it is a video game, made my a video game developer, poking fun at what is perceived to be the stereotypical gamer. Obviously you see it differently. PL_ Veteran Posted December 10, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 10, 2007 How do you react when somebody you don't know comes to you at tells you "Hey nerd, please get a life and get a girlfriend".. do you get offended or you go and start laughing with him and say.. "ha ha ha you are right, that's so funny!". A better way of putting it would be "How would you react if you saw a gravestone written in Spanish that told you to get laid?". In which case, I would be somewhat WTF'd at the randomness. But if it were in a game, I'd laugh at the little joke, and admire the attention to detail ;) Lately I've seen many responses from game developers and Sony too about how people "don't get it", how we are really slow to understand the points, how we are nerds and need to get a life and get laid and all that in some humorous but quite obvious way. Well I did overreact you are right :) .. come to think of it, I don't really care :) I just think that it's bad taste in humor. Some people will not like it, some people will laugh at it, but to say "Get a life and a girlfriend" is kind of lame in it's own way. I just find the overall practice from companies towards their customers is disgraceful and the fact that they seem to consider their audience a bunch of twits sometimes bothers me. Not for me personally but in general the way they look at us. I say us, cause we are all that type, we are consumers. Even though I don't think they can spoon feed me any BS, it disgusts me that they will succeed for a lot of people. And they actually continue to get away with subtle insults like this too. Julius Caro
They are calling VIDEO GAMERS HUGE NERDS, not Spanish people. No. They are assuming that spanish speaking people wouldn't play the game. I wonder if the spanish version of the game (if any) has the same message in english? I mean, I would understand if it was written in Latin, Ancient Greek or Esperanto. People knowing unspoken languages... I can't see how that would be nerdy. People knowing Spanish, when millions of people speak it in the US... Although, come to think about it, you're right... the message really is towards video gamers who spend hours playing. Boz
Where else has Sony and/or it's affiliates called it's target audience nerds who need to get a life? Well, they didn't do it directly, but Tretton says how the public really can't "GET" PS3 and how they underestimated how we would all be slow to figure it out. It's subtle messages like this that bug me to be honest. I did a lot to GET their console and the problem was in them not me.

Although, come to think about it, you're right... the message really is towards video gamers who spend hours playing. Or else the fact that the game IS RIDDLED WITH SPANISH REFERENCES. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted:_Drake's_Fortune The game opens with Nathan Drake (Nolan North) recovering the coffin of the explorer and an ancestor of Nathan (as professed by Nathan), Sir Francis Drake from the ocean floor, using coordinates inscribed on a ring in Nathan's possession. The effort is paid for through journalist Elena Fisher (Emily Rose)'s company, who is there to record the events for a potential blockbuster documentary. The coffin only contains a diary written by Sir Francis Drake, but points to the location of El Dorado, the fabled city of gold. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Dorado El Dorado (Spanish: "the gilded one") is a legend that began with the story of a South American tribal chief who covered himself with gold dust and would dive into a lake of pure mountain water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sir_Francis_Drake Sir Francis Drake, Vice Admiral, (c. 1540 – January 27, 1596) was an English privateer, navigator, slave trader, and politician of the Elizabethan era. Drake was knighted by the Queen in 1581. He was second-in-command of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada in 1588. He died of dysentery after unsuccessfully attacking San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1596. In keeping with the setting/location/background of the game would it make sense to have an ENGLISH written tombstone on this island? FFS people, stop overeacting/blowing this up. Not saying you need to all find this funny, but please, stop being as whiny as Jack Thompson, the man you probably all turn to hate on every chance you get. Obviously we just have differnet personalities, as I can tell you why I could care less about what you said above (and no offense to you, just sharing why I could care less.) I personally could care less about what Sony, MS, Nintendo, McDonalds, BestBuy, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc. etc. etc., (the list goes on and on), but I could truly care less what any single one of them have to say. To me, they are all corporations, and therefore, evil. They all lie, they all trick, they all deceive, just to get money. Sure, some of them may be better than others, some of them worse, but at the end of the day I dislike them all with a passion. So you can hate one particular one of you like, I tend to hate them all, and I only own their consoles or electronics because they provide me with entertainment. So while I may own their products, I make damn sure not to let any of their products, or the company themselves, own me.
