blizeH
Hi guys, I currently use Notepad++, which is okay but I'm wondering if there's something with a slightly better UI like http://www.panic.com/coda/ ? Thanks
0 Mathachew Veteran Posted December 12, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 12, 2007 hfgl with that one. Mac and Windows application GUIs are created differently.
0 nvme
i personally like Notepad++ because of all of its extensions.
0 zeroday
+1 for Notepad++. Its simple, not bloated, and does the job perfectly. I don't think there is a Windows equivalent of Coda.
0 GusValentine
I'm not sure how usefull this would be, but it's free: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition: http://www.microsoft.com/express/vwd/
0 booboo
Bumping this because I am also looking for the same, I had a mac, loved it, used coda, broke the mac, and now im back on windows with notepad++ and don't get me wrong, it's great software but I'd just prefer something that was more integrated. I'm a sucker for a good GUI, anyone know any like this? Not dreamweaver or WYSYWIG editors.
0 Fry
Dreamweaver is honestly the best. It gives you a quick insert menu and WYSIWYG view for all the menial HTML nonsense so you can spend more time writing actual program logic. And the code view is really very good. Pleasantly unobtrusive code hint system, syntax validation on the fly, code collapse... About the only extra functionality I'd like would be the split code view from Coda. 0 +virtorio MVC Posted May 14, 2011 MVC Share Posted May 14, 2011 I really like PhpED, mainly for its excellent PHP debugging feature. However, it's not cheap.
0 DrJens
I'd go for Zend Studio and Dreamweaver if you can afford both. If you have a low budget, go for Dreamweaver!
0 Admodieus
I like Microsoft Expression Web; if you're a student you can get it for free at Dreamspark. Also, the HTML Live extension for Chrome is pretty good too.

0 Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted June 2, 2011 Veteran Share Posted June 2, 2011 Notepad ++ might not be pretty however, it is the best tool that I use for everything i write.
0 DrunkenBeard
If you're a serious developer please do yourself a favor and get PhpStorm (or WebStorm if you don't care about PHP).
0 Shadrack
Vim - Vi iMproved! Seriously... its my editor of choice on every platform. I have Coda on my Mac, but still find myself using Vim. If you have never used it before it will probably make you pull your hair out. Once you learn it, its the best (IMHO).

0 iuerg87yerg879e0rg9erugjer
webmatrix is probably the best web IDE for windows in my opinion, though i hate though how it lacks browsing via ftp
0 kjx
I was in a similar dilemma. I finally settled on JetBrains PHPStorm. I love it. Expression web didn't really cut it for me. Eclipse is just too heavy and bloated. Haven't used WebMatrix.

0 jbrooksuk
I use Sublime Text version 2 is cross platform too! It's fully extendible via Python plugins - although the API is a bit limited at the moment, V2 is currently in alpha and more features are added all the time!
