Confirmed: MGS4 and Metal Gear Online Join Together!

Since the announcement of Metal Gear Online, it?s been left unclear whether or not it would be released as a standalone title or bundled together with Metal Gear Solid 4. It?s only commonsense that the two should be paired together, but early talk didn?t seem to suggest that they would be. Well, the January ?08 issue of the new PlayStation: The Official Magazine (formerly PSM) was just dropped off in my mailbox headlined on the cover with exclusive confirmation that MGS4 and MGO are in fact being integrated into one value-packed MGS experience for the PS3. Hurray!

The news comes as part of the magazine?s ?Top 10 Games of ?08″ cover story, with MGS4 obviously sneaking away with the #1 spot. Beyond the exciting news of the MGS4/MGO merger, there are some other details revealed about MGO too, including word that it?ll support up to 16 players in modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Team Sneak on five ?Starter Pack? maps. Character customization sounds like a point of emphasis for the title too, with the article stating that players will be able to customize their characters with up to three special skills (they sound very similar to the perks in Call of Duty 4), and that skills and weapons will level up over the course of play. There?s plenty more discussed as well, so keep an eye out on newsstands and pick up a copy to read up on all the details, or if you have a subscription be on the lookout for your issue to arrive anytime now.

personally, I'd rather have a confirmed launch date.

Between Jan 08 and Dec 08. Good enough for ya? ;)

I'm not much of a gamer anymore but this game might get me to buy a PS3. IMO, it would be really cool if they included the full story of MGS2 and MGS3 (in FMV format) from the Previous games on an extra disc. I don't have time to replay MGS2 but the story is much more complicated than MGS3. I have a feeling MGS4 won't be light on plot either.

From what I can remember from MGS2's overly complicated story, it was all a training exercise.....

Maybe...

They have said something about this, during the game I think it was you will be able to press one of the buttons at a certain times which will then play a cut scene from one of the older games.

They haven't said too much though, it was in an interview with one of the guys who work with them or something.

Anyway, very cool to include it in there, going to be having some fun with that.

i was following the storyline of mgs2 till i got near the end, and i totally lost the plot... totally. mgs3 looked interesting, but missed out on it... if they are wrapping things up in mgs4, i will have to go thru and understand all the games again cos i hate missing sections out. FMV films would be nice tho :)

also, do you think they will release MGonline seperately to download seeing as warhawk was so successful that way

I've pointed this out a few times, but if anyone has bandwith to spare - http://www.newzealandstory.com/mgs/

Cutscenes from MGS 1/2/3 made into "movies".

It's a shame they used twin snakes though, as the remake IMO duffs up some of the voice acting (they redone it), and the music isn't as good - In return it does have better graphics on the eye (Gamecube vs PSX original)

As someone said earlier in this topic though, MGS4 will have moments where you can push button "x" or w/e button it will be, for a flashback with extra detail about what has happened previously (Y)

I'm desperate to play this... :(

Plus the bonus secret videos were hilarious, particularly with The End following "somebody" around. Hehehe.

The bad guys in MGS3 were near perfect in character, in grandoise, and abilities. Will be interesting to see what new boss characters are out for MGS4 - if any. Bringing back Vamp is a neat idea. Wonder if you can play as them on-line. Hmmmm.

Nice, now that Online will be packaged with MGS4 i'm even more excited about the game!

Oh, and L3thal, if you're able to find a torrent, please let me know. I'd like to see the movies too.
