Skinning Internet Explorer

Should MS have provided customisation options for IE7?

  1. 1. Do you think Microsoft should have released skins or an easy way to make skins (or customise it)?

    • Yeah... thats one reason why Firefox is chewing them up.

    • Nah... IE7 looks great the way it is.

    • No... I'm too scared to tweak applications on my computer. It might go BOOM.

I read a guide detailing how to change the buttons on the default toolbar of IE7 using Resource Hacker. But guide writer said that they hadn't gotten around to figuring out how to change the dull background colour, upon which all the buttons are placed. It's still a plain old grey, and I want it black to blend with my icons. That user hasn't posted another guide for this subject yet, so I'm asking you.

Is there any way to do it? I'm not looking to make skins for the public (not skilled enough yet...), but I would like to make my IE7 GUI black, to blend with the Vista theme I have on my XP OS. If you have a link to such a skin (with installer or installing directions), please post it.

I dont know, I cant really see IE having themes... It would kinda kill it.. somehow.

It wouldn't kill it. One of the four main reasons I migrated to Firefox was because of the lack of themes.

Reasons (non specific order):

1. Vast number of extensions that serves almost any action you want to perform.

2. Themes

3. Tab Customization (Tab Mix Plus, etc.)

4. No Script, Adblock Plus...

Edit: You posted in the wrong section. It should be under Web Browser Discussion.

Sorry... still new here. Had no idea where i was posting. all i saw was the big pretty NEW TOPIC button.

But the one reason I stayed away from Firefox was because it's tabs are too small. I know its a wierd reason. But i had no idea how to make them bigger (maybe themes can).

BTW can i repost it in the right forum? or is that considered spam?
