Firefox just mind-raped me.

Recommended Posts

So I had my laptop off for about 12 hours or so when I was traveling. When I left, Firefox was all nice and pretty and grand. I loved it.

Now it seems to have raped my mind. It deleted ALL of my bookmarks, which I need, and I can't seem to find them. It deleted not only the ones on the bookmark tool bar, but also the ones just in the Bookmarks folder!

Any clue how/why, and/or more importantly how to get them back??

Thanks!!

Not sure about your description of how Firefox 'mind-raped' you, but try looking in C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and the folders inside for a bookmarks.html file.

Perhaps Firefox somehow deleted your profile and created a new one. You can just import this bookmarks file back into Firefox.

I already looked for that, which seems to have been converted to...well, completely blank as far as links go. It doesn't even have the BBC News RSS feed like it normally has on the tool bar thing.

And I got mind raped because I have NO IDEA how something like this happened. I didn't change anything at all - one day it's all fine, the next it's completely lost without a trace.

Edit: Alright, I did find a file buried in some hidden folders. Sweet...but it doesn't have anything on the Bookmarks Tool Bar. Am I basically SOL there?

ummmm... maybe try a system restore to the last time you were happy???

couldn't hurt i suppose - I have to reformat anyhow, I just want to at least back everything up first. :)

*cough*

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile name>\bookmarkbackups\

find the most recent one and import it in the bookmark manager.

The reason your bookmarks are gone is because you didn't close it before shutting down so it didn't save the settings.
