+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) boardsus.playstation.com — With today's PS3 firmware 2.10 update and PSP firmware 3.80 update, Sony has secretly updated the Remote Play functionality to allow playing of all PSone downloadable games AS WELL AS PS1 ORIGINAL DISCS! Straight to the source on the Playstation Forums. This is really interesting tech news! Source: http://digg.com/playstation/BREAKING_All_P...Playable_on_PSP According to the Official Playstation boards, within today's PS3 firmware v2.10 and PSP firmware v3.80, Sony has secretly updated the remote play function to allow the playing of all PSone downloadable games as well as PSone original discs. 12-18-07 UPDATE: You can now play your PS1 downloadable titles via remote play. You can also play your PS1 discs via remote play!! This is HUGE news! Source: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=23710 Absolutely HUGE if this is true! I now dream of DA getting eboot files streaming from a PS3 hard drive to a CFW PSP - :woot: ^ If that happens = No need for PSP memory stick anymore, and you can literally play ANY PS1 game (you have on the PS3 hard drive) ANY time you want ! - I doubt it though, as it's the PS3's PS1 emulation that's being used here, not the PSP's :( :( Edited December 18, 2007 by Audioboxer

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2007 As the PS3 upscales PS1 games I wonder if using remote play to run a PS1 game to your PSP makes it look better (sharper/smoother/ect) than running it from a PSP memory card? (CFW w/ PS1 eboot).... Anyone own some PS1 originals, and a CFW PSP and care to test? I have FF7/FF8/FF9 about somewhere, but I dunno where the discs are... :pinch:
Ironman273
So BC is important in this case but not for the 40Gb PS3? ;)
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2007 So BC is important in this case but not for the 40Gb PS3? ;) The 40GB PS3 plays PS1 games just fine :/ The PSP can emulate PS1 games standalone (from a memory stick), and has been for about a year or so. Remote play PS1 play from the PS3 was an obvious move from the minute PS1 games started being offered from the PSN store, it just hasn't been implemented till now. Rudy
that would be REALLY cool if it could do it for PS2 games......i think i would buy a PS3 for that lol
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2007 that would be REALLY cool if it could do it for PS2 games......i think i would buy a PS3 for that lol It could be done with the 20/60/80G if Sony enable it... (and maybe even 40GB, if one day, all PS2 BC can be done by software) PS3 games can do remote play (Lair), so I would hinder a guess on the technical side, PS2 games could be done on the PSP as well  I do hope Sony can get that done some day! - The only restriction that could make things difficult in some games is the lack of 2 analog sticks. PS1 games weren't as analog reliant.

I'm talking about BC in general. Many discussions have been made as to why BC is completely unimportant in defense of the PS3. Now I see a lot of the same people getting moist about playing PS1 games. Didn't you buy the PS3 and PSP to play new games like you argue about BC? +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 18, 2007 Author Subscriber² Share Posted December 18, 2007 (edited) You're missing my point (maybe on purpose). I'm talking about BC in general. Many discussions have been made as to why BC is completely unimportant in defense of the PS3. Now I see a lot of the same people getting moist about playing PS1 games. Didn't you buy the PS3 and PSP to play new games like you argue about BC? It's different because PS1 BC was a MASSIVE thing and a main seller* for the PSP. No one really cares that much about PS1 BC on a PS3. * I bought my PSP for emulation and to play PS1 games primarly. There is a good catalog of PSP games out now, but the PS1 catalog is still better. Nothing beats MGS, FF7 or Xenogears on your PSP. The main plus is the PSP is portable and playing your PS1 games on the go offers a whole new experience as opposed to just playing your PS1 games on a PS2/PS3 (same enviroment as you previously experienced them in = infront of a TV in your bedroom/living room). So the reason we're going bonkers is because PS1 play on the PSP offers us something new for all our PS1 classics. I can easily pull out my PS1 and play PS1 games on it anytime, and I can easily play PS1 games on my PS2/PS3 but I haven't been/didn't plan to... It wasn't until I found out a year ago my PSP could play PS1 games I wanted to go relive all my past gaming moments... and now with remote play I get excited about the idea of one day being able to play all my favourite PS1 games on my PSP over remote play, cutting out space restrictions that limit how many PS1 games you can put on PSP memory cards. Remote play also offers a "legal" solution for all those people out there who didn't want to install CFW on their PSPs to play PS1 games. And it's also nice Sony added support for PS1 discs, instead of continuing to force people to rebuy their PS1 games from the PSN store just to play them on their PSP. Corris Veteran Posted December 18, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 18, 2007 This is awesome, while I don't have a PSP for a good while, something like this is very awesome to have as an extra and really shows off the connectivity between the two consoles. Something I would defiantly use for playing PS1 games and not have to worry about sticking them on a memory card. off topic/ Oh and Audioboxer, I did end up choosing a name, I just added a "D" to the end and it worked :hmmm: , itle do for now, just gotta wait on the PS3 and Christmas now. /off topic

Buy PS1 classics from PSN and transfer to PSP mem card Restrictions = Limited to store games/Limited to how much space your PSP memory card has 2. Rip your own (or obtain ;)) PS1 classics on PC, transfer to memory card and play on a CFW PSP (most popular - CFW required to play your own games not obtained from store) Restrictions = Limited to how much space your PSP memory card has
Xerxes
Sounds cool :) I'll definitely will have to try that out at home tonight (I got a couple of PS1 games lying around somewhere :p). Still, I see just one small fault with it, you probally don't want to be too far from your PS3 is your playing a multi-disk game like GT2, FFVIII etc otherwise it could be a pain to walk all the way back to the PS3 to change disks!
