+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 21, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted December 21, 2007 21 December 2007 12:12 GMT - In what we can only assume is a public relations blunder, the Sony-backed "HD World" newsletter, designed to promote the Blu-ray format, has revealed a new model of PS3 for Europe. The most recent edition of HD World mentions the larger hard drive capacity model for the European market in the context of a wider industry piece on a report on the deciding factors in the format war, it states: "In Western Europe by the end of 2008, "Understanding & Solutions" predicts average player prices (as opposed to entry level model pricing), for HD DVD and Blu-ray of $275 and $475 respectively, with the yet-to-be-launched European 80GB PS3 retailing at just over $500." Currently on sale in the UK is the cut-price 40GB PlayStation 3, with no backwards compatibility and the 60GB version. Pocket-lint had previously suggested that Sony would eventually phase out the 60GB model in the UK in favour of the larger 80GB version, but this has not been confirmed by Sony. We got in touch with a Sony Europe spokesperson who stated: "The HD World newsletter is written by external sources, and the report quoted is from independent analysts. There is absolutely no 80GB version of the PS3 planned for Europe in 2008". Source: http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.pht...urope-500.phtml Interesting... Many speculated a "new" BC model would replace the 60GB in Europe once it went. We got in touch with a Sony Europe spokesperson who stated: "The HD World newsletter is written by external sources, and the report quoted is from independent analysts. There is absolutely no 80GB version of the PS3 planned for Europe in 2008". Truth or damage control? :p
Corris Veteran Posted December 21, 2007 Veteran Share Posted December 21, 2007 Hopefully truth, Id be rather bummed out if I got a PS3 40gb (which I defiantly am now, just got to pick some games) with no backwards compatibility, the 60gbs I can not find anywhere at all, and then they bring out the 80gb that does have BC, which I would like to have. But saying that, I am going to have to get in the mind set of not relying on BC anyway, the next gen consoles and then afterwards, well its just going to get hard to emulate the last gen and those before. I am of course still keeping my PS2 around.

Now there's no way the 80GB would come at ?250, but it won't be ?:blink:ink: (if it comes)
PiracyX
Umm no.$500 is just over ?250 with current exchange rates. Now there's no way the 80GB would come at ?250, but it won't be ?4:blink:nk: (if it comes) Well they learned their lesson for selling their system far out of reach for many gamers that are willing to spend on a PS3. ?250-?300 will be fine and if it comes, bring BC back then ill be interested. And since here in the uk we are paying equivilant of $600 for the 40Gig model and $700 for the 60 gig model (if you can find one) It really wouldnt suprise me. There is NO WAY the 80gig is going to be cheaper than the 40 gig

I'd expect it to be ?350 realistically. ?450 is a bit too high really... they'd just be shooting themselves in the foot then.

King Antonius
40GB can easily be picked up for ?270 now.I'd say <= 350. Aye, but mostly only if you get it off the web. Most people still come to GAME (I mean, i sold 11 PS3's today... ) Gamestation and other stores. All of which still have the Machine at ?300. Im sticking with ?350-?
