TeamLIGER
I can't believe there has been no mention of the recent release of the Netscape Navigator 9 in the forums. Remember Netscape? Hope you do.... Well so I got pretty pi**ed of with Opera 9.25, cause it started to slow down and would not render flash properly. So I was back hunting for browsers to use in place of it. Firefox...Nope....Too much memory consumption and quite slow for my taste.... Maxthon...Definitely not.....I think it looks appalling..... Flock.....Nope...Same as Firefox....... And I was even considering Konqueror! Then I came across Netscape Navigator 9. Knowing that Navigator was once the king of browsers before Interment Explorer pushed it off [amazingly], I decided to give it another shot. Here is what I found out before downloading it. - It now uses the Gecko engine [the one Firefox uses] and dumped the trident engine [based in IE] it once used - Using the Gecko engine, Firefox add-ons are compatible with it - In fact, it looks like Firefox just with a new theme. - it features a new extremely useful feature called the mini-browser, where a small pane on the left opens and acts just like a separate tab! So you can compare two sites, without having to open another tab, side by side! [Neat!] - A Link Pad in which you can dump useful links for future reference without cluttering your bookmarks column. So I was pretty impressed with the feature list [and was exceptionally happy that it dumped trident!] and installed it onto my computer. Well what can I say? I fell in love with it immediately. Its nothing like Firefox! Netscape somehow managed to overcome the large memory usage problem all current Firefox based browsers had! Amazing! Not only that. It is blazing. And I MEAN it. It is ridiculously fast. You need to try it to find out for yourself! The interface looks very nice [Netscape's default theme]. It renders flash smoothly. Seriously, I cannot describe just how fast it actually is. You HAVE to try it. It makes Opera look like a slug. Those who currently use Firefox will have no problem getting used to Netscape's new Browser! The only problem is the fact that the Navigator surprisingly, does not import anything from Firefox.Well I can live with that. Watch out world! Netscape is BACK! Homepage of Navigator 9 UPDATE: There had been a post by Shof with regards to The browser. [so it HAD been mentioned.....] Edited December 23, 2007 by TeamLIGER
Lighthalzen
Since you said it was so great, I gave it a try, because there is no harm trying... I hope... Here is what I find out: - It is fast, just like IE7 (IE 7 is really fast for me) - It works just like Firefox, but faster. - Addons works, except Adblock (Only one I tried) Adblock Plus works however. - Flash and QuickTime works, Windows Media Player does not. (Have not testd Real Player) - Google Toolbar works. - Does not pass ACID 2 if anyone cares or wondering. - I hate the Splash Screen, it's ugly. - Overall, I would use Netscape over Firefox. So now I am going to use IE 7 and Netscape 9. *I had to manually install the Flash Plug-in for some reason. Anyone out there who have used or will use could tell me if this happen to them as well? 1Frothy
Nestscape Eeeh? :shifty: I might have to try it. Thanks  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11pre) Gecko/20071206 Firefox/2.0.0.11 Navigator/9.0.0.5 It's just Firefox with Netscape Badging. :fun: Mr TeamLIGER. Steeley
It is good. I've been using it for a while now. Those few extra features over firefox make it worthwhile but for me, I think, it the nostalgic value over everything else.

Thanks  It's just Firefox with Netscape Badging. :fun: Mr TeamLIGER. tut tut tut :p Don't let looks fool you. It has overcome the memory usage problems gecko based browsers have and also somewhere around 2 times faster than Firefox. It also sports new features not even available to Firefox as widgets. ;) Since you said it was so great, I gave it a try, because there is no harm trying... Well I didn't have any issues with flash, it worked seamlessly. I have not quite tested the Adblock add on as yet. For your information, ACID 2 test is not really important [basically something to do with browser support, I think], and many well known browsers have failed [only Opera and IE8 have passed as far as I know]. soldier1st
it seems good but my only complaint is that it does not import my bookmarks properly unlike opera and firefox, otherwise it seems ok.

Yea, it seems there are some issues with regards to importing bookmarks, and that it does not even include firefox as one of the options.

mikill
i just installed navigator to check it out after all these years of not using it. not too bad over all. i did notice that the memory footprint of it compared to firefox is about the same, give or take a few MB so no gain for me in that respect, but some of the other features are interesting, like the wigets for one. also when loading netscape nav, it's just a hair slower than firefox is, even after the first initial loading of it (netnav that is). oh i almost forgot, it imported everything from firefox without a hitch. ok, i just noticed this as well, when i put the mouse pointer over links or buttons and so on, the tooltip is blank. bug maybe? itsnotabigtruck
Netscape is now just Firefox with an ugly theme. Why not just use Firefox instead? BTW Netscape was never based on the IE engine. Gecko was developed by Netscape before AOL spun teh real Netscape off as the Mozilla Foundation.
