Xerxes
Howdy all, just me again and unfortunately I got another problem with my PS3 (although I think the problem is actually on the PC side) I am trying to get media sharing working on the PS3 and it isn't, my computer cannot see the PS3 and the PS3 cannot see the PC. At first I thought it was cause of Vista not supporting the PS3, but my old machine is running Vista Home Premium and it detects the PS3 and shares with it no problem at all! (using WMP11) but this one won't! It is Vista Ultimate and I'm trying to share with WMP11, it has McAfee Antivirus on it but even with it turned off it cannot see the PS3 (but oddly it can ping it) and I've made sure everything is setup correctly (same settings as the old machine using Vista Home Premium) but it just won't work....any ideas guys? I probably should mention how it is all setup as well :p PS3 is hooked up wirelessly to the network (Internet works, it can connect to the PSN) PC is hooked up via ethernet (Internet works etc) I have a wireless ADSL router (D-link) hooking all the computers (4), PS3, Xbox 360 plus other devices and everything works. As I've said the other computer running Vista Home Premium streams to the PS3 fine, just my new machine won't. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2007 I've read of a lot of problems with WMP11 and a PS3. Use TVersity! It's the best streaming app for music/movies/ect. http://tversity.com/home Is this for streaming xvid/divx ?
Xerxes
Yeah, I want to set it up to watch my DivX movies and listen to my music on it. I was hoping to get WMP11 working as it's already setup with the 360 and I don't really want multiple programs running on my PC doing essentially the same thing. However, I'll give it a go to see if the problem is hardware or software related, so thanks for that. Still it is annoying cause it worked first time on the old computer, DivX video, music, pictures, the lot just worked! (and in Vista too) EDIT: Nevermind, just as I posted the above post, WMP11 just told me it discovered my PS3! it all works now the problem was McAfee!! PC-Cillin (which runs on all my other machines) has no problem with the PS3, but it seems the McAfee firewall blocks the PS3 even when you tell it not to! yet another reason why I'm ditching McAfee for PC-Cillin on this machine soon as it expires (I'm only using it case it came with 12 months "free" subscription..I figured since I paid for it, might as well use it but I'm not renewing it that is for sure!) Well thx for the help anyway :) now I gotta figure out how to keep the firewall on and let the PS3 connect as I don't wanna have to turn the firewall off everytime I want to stream to my PS3.... +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted December 23, 2007 Subscriber² Share Posted December 23, 2007 If you do try TVersity, turn off the transcoder in the settings (set it to "never") At this moment in time TVersity hasn't been updated since the PS3 firmware 2.10 - Therefore it still transcodes divx/xvid files when streaming to the PS3 unless you turn off the transcoder. Thx, no worries. I may still try using TVersity (I have used it before, back before MS allowed video streaming without Media Centre) till at least after I ditch McAfee, simply cause I can see it getting really annoying turning off the firewall everytime I want to stream to the PS3, but I'll see how it goes how it is first, so thx again :)
