UT3 freezes up

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my UT3 game. When I try to start the single player campaign my game always freezes up during the videos.

I'm not able to watch them, I have to skip them and then the game works OK. However I'm afraid I won't be able to follow the storyline if I don't solve this problem.

I have the 1.1 patch, my drivers are 169.21 (WinXP, Athlon 64 3000+, Geforce 8800GTS320MB, 2x1GB RAM).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The other thing is that anytime I exit the game my keymapping always reverts to the default settings. Nothing seems to help, I have to remap my keys everytime I start the game. Why oh why? :-(

Thanks for the replies.

Merry Christmas ;-)

Make sure the config files for UT3 are not read-only.

The video problem is odd. I'm betting it has something to do with the codec packs on your system. Which packs do you have installed?

Thanks for all the answers.

I'm using the "All in one" codec pack 6.0.3.0. I could try and install CCCP and see what happens then.

As for the CPU - I'm planning to upgrade but I'm waiting for the release of C2D E8200 ;-)

However, I don't think this is a CPU issue because some of my friends have a weaker system and they can play the UT3 videos just fine.

Do you happen to use xfire? If you do disable ingame or tracking for ut3 altogether since it tends to break most games in some way these days.

  • 1 year later...

ihave been trying to fix my ut3 but it freezes ingame when im shooting or something is blowing up.... ive tried everything.. but anyways in my endless search ive found that going into directory: My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config and changing some values in the UTEngine.ini file helps... try finding PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=False and change the value to true...
