Tavares makes major impact in limited role

It has to be one of the more memorable performances in national junior team history, if only in its efficiency.

John Tavares, the Oakville-raised 17-year-old, logged all of five shifts in yesterday's opener at the world under-20 hockey championship. Still, he scored two of Canada's three goals in a 3-0 shutout win over the host country. And the height of his exertion ? considering he was playing exclusively on the power play, where the wrists must be quick even when the skating is decidedly slow ? probably came in the celebration of the game's first goal.
