It has to be one of the more memorable performances in national junior team history, if only in its efficiency.

John Tavares, the Oakville-raised 17-year-old, logged all of five shifts in yesterday's opener at the world under-20 hockey championship. Still, he scored two of Canada's three goals in a 3-0 shutout win over the host country. And the height of his exertion ? considering he was playing exclusively on the power play, where the wrists must be quick even when the skating is decidedly slow ? probably came in the celebration of the game's first goal.
