I finally caved

Recommended Posts

I finally bought a PS3. With how unreliable my 360 has been and the current problems with Live I decided it was finally time to get the PS3.

I ordered the 40gb version online about an hour ago along with an HDMI cable and the remote control for playing Blu Ray movies. So...in about a week or two I should have it.

Now I have to decide which movies and games I want to buy. :woot:

I don't really have anything to say except some bashing, so I'll just say "congrats".

Congrats.

Actually I wonder how many 360 owners there are who also bought a PS3 with the 360's lack of dependability as the main factor for the decision.

Hope you enjoy it. I hear Uncharted is a lot of fun

There's a good enough selection of games to tide you over into 2008 and until the big hitters start coming out.

2008 should be the year of the PS3 IF games come out on time and deliver. Also if Sony manage to deliver Home, and it lives up to expectations.

Dualshock 3 will be out, and im sure PS3 firmware upgrades will continue to add cool things, whether it be for the PS3 or PSP-PS3 interactivity.

Just go for the usual titles,

Resistance

Motorstorm

Warhawk

Uncharted

COD4

Rockband

Gutair Hero

Assassins Creed

UT3

Ninja Gaiden

Rainbow 6

Singstar

Orange Box (if you dont/cant get it for PC/360)

Heavenly Sword

Folklore

Eye of Judgement

R&C

EA sports titles

Not as strong a lineup as the 360 by far, but that still doesn't mean there aren't some titles to pickup and play.

Then check out some of the PSN titles.

Congratulations on your purchase. I might buy a PS3 as well (same reasons as you). I recommend 'Resistance: Fall of Man' and 'Ratchet and Clank'. As for movies, I recommend The Simpsons Movie, Rush Hour 3, Shoot 'Em Up, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. (Y)

I was one of those guys. Got the Xbox360 the day it came out, after 4 months of red lights flashing at me I put it in the closet. A few months later I got my PS3 and havent looked back yet.

In all reality I'm not too worried about having many games at all for it. I will probably use it primarily for watching movies (i already have an HD DVD player) and for games that aren't available on the 360.

welcome to the dark side ;) definitely pick up some of the games that audioboxer listed.

How does PS3s online version of gaming compare to XBOX Live?

when it comes to actually playing games online, the network holds up well. it doesn't have an integrated friends list/invite/messaging system though so it's not as good. however the newer games such as cod4 and ut3 are starting to implement these things within the game itself, so it's slooowly getting there. upside though is it's free, and i've been actually able to play games online the past week, unlike live.

You can't really be too critical about a free service.

What there is though, is plenty of legitimate beefs to have with PSN. Areas where you feel Sony could be doing better in - Such as in-game XMB, in-game messaging ect.

However, PSN is clearly a WIP, and it's not that bad to wait for things to pickup as you aren't paying towards what I'd call a beta service - We know the features we want will come, its just a waiting game to get there. The release of Home is the clear indication we have of messaging/in-game XMB ect becoming real.

As Nightz said though, the actual playing of the titles online is fine, and the network does hold up well.

Heh, yeah...exactly. Most of my actual friends have a 360 and none of them at all have a PS3 so a friends list to me really doesn't matter much. On my 360 I have a bunch of people from here at neowin but I think I've only actually gamed with them a couple of times anyways.

Another Stevo switches to the PS3 eh? I gave up on the 360 last week and went ahead and returned it and got a PS3. As an ex-hardcore 360 gamer the PS3 is doing very well, only game I wish i would've played before my 360 bit the dust was Mass Effect, but I'll find another game soon. :) Enjoy the PS3 and the free online play.

Congratulations StevoFC! Welcome to the bright side as Mac owners say! :D

I'd recommend picking up COD4, and anything else is a matter of preference. I own Ratchet & Clank, I'm on the second level, it's a fun little game, but I'm not the kinda guy who likes playing adventure type games, they frustrate me so I don't "love" the game, but yeah its pretty cool.

Just adding to what Nightz and Audioboxer said:

Home will change a lot of things with the PS3's on-line community system. I'm pretty sure that's why they have not pushed out stuff like in-game messaging/XMB access becuase they are waiting for home.

The way I see it is that if Home does not come out by Q2 2008, PS3 owners might start getting angre (I know I will)

As for recomendations:

- Games:

....CoD4 (if you don't have it for the 360)

....Rachet & Clank

....WarHawk

....Guitar Hero 3 (if you don' t have it for the 360)

....Download as amny demos fro mthe PSN as you can :p

Also, if you are a PC using install TVersity so you can share music, videos and pictures with your PS3. Though if you use WMP11 to manage your media you don't need this.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the dark side . . I promise you'll like it here ;)
