sn00pie
You do realize an HDMI cable doesn't cost any more to make than any other cables do. You can buy HDMI cables for under $10. Same with optical (toslink) cables, they used to be close to $100 and you can buy them for like $7-$10 now. So if you can buy them that cheap imagine how little they cost to produce. Well assuming Sony wants to bundle in there own HDMI cables which retail for $69.99 (cad) STILL, I bought an eBay cable for $10 too.

Phemo
I think its good that they don't ship with component cables, whats the point because if you want to upscale your old DVD movies (which almost everyone who watches movies on there PS3 will want to do) you need to buy a HDMI cable. Therefore rendering the component cable useless, and in the end they would be spending more money for no reason. Including a HDMI cable would be to expensive for Sony, especially when there trying to save every buck they can. DVD playback should be thought of as a bonus feature. The PS3 is a games console - having component cables bundled with it would allow owners to play their PS3 games in HD resolutions - that is something it should be able to do without spending extra in my opinion. Fair enough you need to use HDMI if you want upscaled DVD playback etc but they could've at least bundled a cable similar to what MS did with the 360 - component and composite in one cable as it wouldn't have cost much more and it would've at least given people some more options. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 1, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted January 1, 2008 The thing I wish they started doing is PS3/PC/360 online play so that I could play my friend in CoD4 who has a PS3 and my dad who would play it on the PC Theres various problems stopping that. Obvious one being mouse/keyboard support - PS3 overcomes that right now, and I guess 360 could with an update? Another is differences between FPS - UT3 runs slower on the PS3, but it does that by design, not down to an unstable FPS rate. Finally there is the issue of patches/game updates. PC games can get updated much quicker, sometimes even with beta patches cropping up. PS3/360 game patches have to go through more testing and get signed off by Sony/Microsoft. I don't think we'll see much PS3-360-PC crossplay this generation, unless it's simpler games, or the above problems aren't an issue for the title in question. ps. I'm going to PS3-less from the 3rd till the 11th of Jan :( !!
PiracyX
It's kind of funny how many people here are waiting for the dual shock 3 controllers. Well if Sony released them over here sooner rather than later, i would of considered getting one very, very soon. I don't want to end up buy extra controllers later because of a feature that was added e.g Rumble, which really should of been put on day one but there we go. Plus it actually does give time for better games to come out and prehaps we will see these new DS3 controllers around the launch of GT5 which would be great. Galley
Congrats, dude! Chcek out Blu-ray.com for news & reviews, plus they have a great forum for both Blu-ray Disc and PS3 gaming. Tip: be on the lookout for "buy one, get one free" promotions from Amazon.com. The same disc that will cost you $25 plus tax at Best Buy will cost you $9.98 with free shipping and no tax. :D

Indeed. To the guy who said the component cables would be a waste to all the HDMI users... I disagree. For instance, my 360 is now connected via HDMI, but I took it to a friend's place last night so we could have Guitar Hero going during the party. Her set had component, but not HDMI. So having the included component cables was handy in that case. Also by the same logic - wouldn't you have to say that the included composite A/V cables are a waste? CUBBYJR2005
I finally bought a PS3. With how unreliable my 360 has been and the current problems with Live I decided it was finally time to get the PS3.I ordered the 40gb version online about an hour ago along with an HDMI cable and the remote control for playing Blu Ray movies. So...in about a week or two I should have it. Now I have to decide which movies and games I want to buy. :woot: grats I be getting one soon in about a Couple of months and probably the 80GB or 60GB if it still out there to play the ps2 games on the ps3. Martog
Mortog, when you goto your USB Flash Drive and it says empty. Hit triangle and press "Display All". ;) I think its good that they don't ship with component cables, whats the point because if you want to upscale your old DVD movies (which almost everyone who watches movies on there PS3 will want to do) you need to buy a HDMI cable. Therefore rendering the component cable useless, and in the end they would be spending more money for no reason. Including a HDMI cable would be to expensive for Sony, especially when there trying to save every buck they can. I have two controllers so when one is charging, I use the other one. Why must I hit the triangle then go to show all when I think it should show the pictures to start out with? I think it is absurd having to navigate to the pictures XMB icon, then scroll to the drive, press X to access it, then triangle to open an options menu, then move to display all if it is not displayed by default, then press X to accept to display all for that current folder, then having to repeat this stupid triangle etc step to any other folder on the drive, that wastes a little time, not much, but it annoying can could be fixed in a software update so it will automatically display supported formats as well as the folders. Far as the HDMI comment, as others have mentioned, not everyone has HDMI on their display so that is not an option to include just HDMI and leave out a good deal of HD users who have older sets without HDMI but have component. I think including at least component with the stanard AV would be good as more people will be using the component more than likely over HDMI. As I said in my post, I took it over to a friends house right away and had to suffer normal AV because his TV didn't have HDMI and I didn't want to buy an HDMI cable and component both because I'd rarely use the component, but that is me. And why should I pay $50 or whatever it is to charge a controller when I am the only one using the system? One controller is enough for me so I should have a 6ft or 9ft cord to charge the controller with and be able to play at the same time, I think the 360 play and charge kit is 9ft or close. Though buying a cheap USB extension cord is better than buying a second controller, just would be nice to have a longer charging cord is all. Overall I am having a blast and went through R&C twice now, going to give it a break before I try for skill points and rest of the gold bolts and upgraded weapons. I am just thinking of what games I want to rent before I buy another, may get a few movies too. That and since I have Spiderman 3 on DVD and Blu-Ray, I can compare the upscaling to the blu-ray for kicks. :) I know it won't be near as good but I like to play around with that kind of stuff. I've been messing around with everything and getting it all set up so I probably only gamed for like 30 minutes. The graphics are good, but they seem totally different than the 360. It's hard to explain. Something about it is just completely different.

I've not even played the Uncharted demo yet :| I want the full thing :p The general presentation of the game I guess is different. More lifelike overall. Colors aren't oversaturated and the detail is great. For example, if you walk through water you easily notice that your clothes are wet. If you are in water up to your waste, that's all that is wet. You go all the way in and you are dripping wet when you get out. Lighting effects are great, but i think the main difference is the AA. it's just not there like on the 360. In a way it makes some things look really sharp, but that's not always good. You will see what i mean. Some places textures are really great, but then in others they are lower quality and you really notice it. That's just my experience so far playing one game. I would have to compare the same game on both to really see if there is much difference.

You will see what i mean. All I can say is I've noticed from some games to another. Some games have nice AA, like F1CE, yet some games have nasty AA like Tiger Woods 08. I think it depends on the game developer. Some places textures are really great, but then in others they are lower quality and you really notice it. That's just my experience so far playing one game. I would have to compare the same game on both to really see if there is much difference. The same sort of things happens with PC games. Quake 3 / Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for example, depends on where on the floor etc, some are low res textures, yet some are high res. Again I'd say this is upon the developers.
