Ive noticed.....

I was a hardcore 360 fan for the longest time... Until the day I got the problems with the system. Microsoft was a pain in the @ss to work with (long story) .. While it was getting fixed.. I went out and bought a PS3.. I still read the 360 forum and damn there is alot of problems.. Seems like as time goes on they are breaking down more often and im not just talking about the 3 red lights...

Im just saying its nice to see our PS3 forum with positive topics that most of us are interested in....

yup, reliability is one of the PS3's plus factors. I personally find the 360 fanboys more difficult this generation, whereas before it was PS2 fanboys I dispised.

There is no doubting the 360 is the most, if not one of the most defective consoles ever manufactured.

However there really is no need for this topic. Will do more harm than "good" (N)

It's good the PS3 is built like a tank, but that's nothing special. Any piece of hardware should be built like a tank as standard - If you're paying good money, and it's from a reputable company.

You shouldn't really need to put reliability down to a + for the PS3, when infact it's just an expectation we all should have.

MS have extended the warrantys and are repairing consoles - That is expected though, they have to keep their reputation as MS intact. Shame it's gone the way it has though, but we don't really need a topic in the PS section to discuss 360 problems

Joystiq have just recentely done an article on their findings - http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/a-year-i...s-2007-edition/ - 90% failure rate in the office.

The 360 is going to sell a heck of a lot more consoles than it has right now, so it's good the problems been identified and fixed in the falcon (or supposedly) - As the biggest chunk of the install base is still to come.

Xbox 360 is probably the console that I've had the most fun with. The Xbox Live service is outstanding, and especially the games. Shame the Xbox 360's hardware is so unreliable. I've gone through four Xbox 360s, when my fourth one died I just gave up and got a PS3. I've been thinking lately of even returning the PS3 and getting a Falcon-equipped Xbox 360, but people on the Xbox forums have also had problems with Falcons too. Really I wish Microsoft would just replace every Xbox 360 out there with a new Falcon. The original design is a joke, and I really think it's going to cost Microsoft more money to be repairing the old consoles 2-8 times than replacing it with a new one that "supposedly" is set to work fine.

The PS3's design is great, like Audioboxer said though, that's to be expected of a reputable company. It's disappointing a reputable company like Microsoft had this happen, but I guess **** happens. I really just hope the Falcon is the 360's gamer salvation. We'll see in a few more months if failure rates decrease - or stay the same.

Why is this in the Sony forum? By the way, Microsoft started by building Operating Systems and they're not too good at that either, i wouldn't expect much from the company tbh.

I didnt make this post to do any harm .... I was an owner of the 360 and liked it when it worked.. People pay good money for these systems and alot of them are kids who dont have the money to spend ... Maybe this post will help them invest thier money in something that will last... Thats all im sayin ;)

I'm still torn between buying a 360 or a PS3, before price cuts there's only a ?10 difference.

The PS3 is brilliant, but does have it's shortcomings. It would be great if the PS3 had the online support like Xbox Live, I know Home is coming, but I get the feeling its taking the online experience in a different direction (this isn't always a bad thing, its just er... different). The XBox's close relationship with PC development makes it an easier platform to develop for. There are pros and cons for both. Ultimately, it will all come down to how well the PS3 and XBox perform over the next couple of years against the Wii.

On another note, I'm now bored with the Wii, I think it's novelty has just worn off :(

I've been enjoying top notch hardware from Nintendo for many, many years now, I was pretty much only nintendo up until the last generation, but even then, I've never had any issues with my PS2s or my XBOX.

Luckily, I haven't had any issues with my 360 yet, but it's only a week or so old . I've only heard of 2 incidents where PS3s have gone bust, one of which was sticky taping the vent holes to keep the dust out (no, im not kidding, either), which is actually a really good track record, considering the PS2 was so error prone.

From what I've read something like 100% of X360s have problems? While only 5% of PS3s encounter problems.

Too bad I'm in the 5%. :(

I believe that the PS3/Wii are in the 1-3% area as far as failures go, while the 360 was in the 30-33% range. No idea if the newer hardware still fails at a 30% rate. I have a zephyr model, and I hope I never have to deal with it failing.

Was that supposed to be a joke? Of course it's not 100% - it's not even close. It's probably around a third from what I hear(which is terrible, mind you, but not 100; and it's probably less than a third too). It can't be 100%. My box hasn't had any problems ;). Maybe you put in an extra '0' on accident.

No joke, I think I read it up on joystiq.com, check for one of the newer articles that sums up the year.

Even without reading the Joystiq article, I hope you don't think that that is a logical number. Certainly, the poll on the front page of Neowin shows otherwise.

Anyways, the joystiq article is here: http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/01/a-year-i...s-2007-edition/ and they say it was just for the 360's that they have.

Sony Console is Rock Solid.

Ironically, the PS3 is not rock solid. The console creaks and moans when you pick it up. It's like the whole thing is slapped together with glue or something. The 3x60, on the handle is like a tank. Sturdy and firm.

Hah..but as we all know, it's the inside that counts.

Gee I wonder how Microsoft works out its Xbox sales figures? I mean i bought 3 xbox 360's and they all died.

Maybe they should take 33% off their worldwide sales.

In my opinion, I reckon the faults are more like 40-60%.

I love my 360, but sometime's I get the chills when I press the power button, it already RROD'd on me once even though it had enough airflow and I used it maybe 2-3 hours a week

Sounds like you've dropped your Playstation one too many times. Can't recall a time mine made such noises. And to add to all this, boy am I glad I own hardware without faults. (Y)

You're not suppose to move it when its on. Due to the fact a possibility of scratching the discs. So it says in the manual. ?_?

I never move mine, and don't have the problems you speak of. The thing is so quiet, only time you hear it is when the next level or something in the game is loading as it accesses/reading the disc.
