Sony considering a subscription service for the PlayStation PC store?

Recommended Posts

Sony is running a survey over in Asia where a question on the list asks ?Which of the following offer from PLAYSTATION?Store (PC) that you find it appealing??. One of the selectable answers is ?Monthly subscription plan (1 price for unlimited download).?

While this is far from concrete information, I welcome the idea of PSPTap. If I can spend $5 or $10 to get unlimited access to a library of downloadable PsOne Classics and a handful of PSP originals like Beats I would do it in a heartbeat. Another question asks what kind downloadable UMD games people want to see on the store. There are some obvious choices like the Tekken series, Piposaru games and LocoRoco. I was initially surprised to see the text heavy Yarudora adventure game series on the list, but it?s on there because most of the games are localized into Chinese! Yes, even the Blood the Last Vampire game is in Chinese, but no company felt it would be profitable to localize it in English. As of now, Asia?s PlayStation PC Store is populated with RPGs localized in Chinese.

File this in the "hmm, interesting" folder of your mind's desktop. Sony's polling its customers in the Asian market for ways in which they can improve their PC/PSP PlayStation Store. One of the selectable responses is "Monthly subscription plan (1 price for unlimited download)". Interesting idea. Would you be happy paying a set amount each month, ala GameTap, for unlimited access to the store's PSP and PS1 games? I sure as sugar would. Well...as soon as anyone outside Japan starts getting decent PS1 games, that is.

If this is priced decentely and is made an alternative to not paying anything (well pay-as-you-go), I think it could be a good option!

Remember this is just part of a survey, and is in no way certain - It might never even see the light of day.

And also remenotis not pay to play, more like pay to download anything you want.

A questionnaire sent out to Asian users of Sony?s PC-based PlayStation Store has hinted that the firm is possibly considering allowing gamers to download an unlimited number of items from PSN if they agree to pay a monthly subscription charge, CVG reports.

The questionnaire also lists a number of existing PSP titles, such as LocoRoco and Tekken, and asks respondents if they would be interested in downloading them from the network.

Current offerings on the PSP version of PSN include a number of download-only PSP titles, some games that were previously released on UMD and a selection of compatible PSOne titles.

well, they are currently charging do download some full PS3 games (LocoRoco spinoff, High Velocity Bowling, Calling All Cars, etc...) and I don't have an issue with that.

As long as I don't have to pay a monthly fee for online multi-player capabilities or downloading demos and themes - I'm fine

Whoops, sorry about that :p

Mods please close or merge :)

Done. Merged.

And I do not like the sounds of this one bit. Keep it free, if I want a game, I will buy it.
