DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 4, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 4, 2008 So this XMas was the first XMas I did not get a single video game. I made sure my loved ones knew they made a mistake. LOL So my mother offered to buy me a game through Amazon since she actually had some credit from a purchase she had made. I had seen that Time Crisis was $80 at Best Buy, and Amazon was selling it for $49.99. So even though I read some downright awful reviews of the game, I decided, especially since there were really no other games out right now, to check it out. Now let me say, truth be told I have always liked Time Crisis games. They are mindless fun, and something about having that light gun in the comfort of my own home just makes me feel like I am in the Arcade, especially now with a HD TV which I never experienced. So a huge part of it is recreating what I consider good old classic Arcade gaming in the comfort of my living room. So I have not played all that much, but it is exactly what I expected it to be. Mindless fun. The graphics are decent. Not horrible, but definitely not next gen. If anyone else is a fan of shooting games like Duck Hunt from way back in the day, I definitely recommend picking it up for the $50 it costs through Amazon. It definitely has it's flaws. It is not all that pretty as pointed out, and calibration is a bitch. You have to hook up these LEDS on the top of your TV and there is just no way to make it look good as there are wires running everywhere (more on that next paragraph), but it is just classic Time Crisis. It also has some mini games I have not yet played but from what I have read sound decent enough, and about the only thing that was a horrible choice was the inclusion of "FPS" stages in the Story Mode. It is a First Person view and just very awkward to say the least. My only other major criticism is this is a game I am only going to play when I just want something different really quick, and the main problem is with the wired LEDs that have to be set up, it takes a few minutes just to set up to play the game. I am not going to leave this things just sitting on my TV. So that is a minor annoyance, as it is not necessarily a game you just "fire up and play." So now I have this gun that I doubt any other games will take advantage of (although I would love it if they did), but overall I am happy with the purchase. It is a nice deviation from the more serious gaming I usually do. And considering it is usually $30 more than what I paid for it, I do not feel ripped off. I do think if it is was $45 lets say, it would almost be a game you had to buy just because it is mindless fun as you have a gun. The only thing I really, really think they dropped the ball on is online CoOp. You can do local CoOp, which of course requires that you have a friend who also has a gun, but if they included online CoOp somehow, it would have added so much more depth and quite frankly a level of fun to the game that would have been a unique experience to say the least. So I would give it right now after about an hour of playtime a 6.5 or 7/10 That may change for the better, it may change for the worse, but I have a feeling it is going to stay right in that area. This is a game where it really is what it is.
+StevoFC MVC Posted January 4, 2008 MVC Share Posted January 4, 2008 I was considering getting this also, because I always had a great time with the arcade versions. I was going to start a thread here actually asking what people though about it. But, I think I might end up getting Ghost Squad (another arcade game I enjoy) for the Wii instead. @ under $30 I think it will be a better deal even though the game is short as hell. Coldgunner
I like time crisis in arcade, might pick this up, if only for some multiplayer. does the gun work on the older games?
+StevoFC MVC Posted January 4, 2008 MVC Share Posted January 4, 2008 After looking more into it. I saw a pic of the gun. It basically forces you to use your right hand to shoot and I hate that. So I doubt I'll be getting it. Sucks being a lefty sometimes...
EnzoFX
my bro bough it, played it and now is sold it. it was mindless fun for him for like 2 hours. i personally could not take it seriously. the gun isn't incredibly accurate, it seems crude, and just not fun. Honestly not sure. I do not have any older games to try it out on either. Now that I have the gun, I do have Gamefly, so I am going to rent the older ones. After looking more into it. I saw a pic of the gun. It basically forces you to use your right hand to shoot and I hate that. So I doubt I'll be getting it. Sucks being a lefty sometimes... Yeah. That does suck. It is a righty gun all of the way. my bro bough it, played it and now is sold it. it was mindless fun for him for like 2 hours. i personally could not take it seriously. the gun isn't incredibly accurate, it seems crude, and just not fun. I will admit it was a bit of a fiasco getting it calibrated right, but once I did I felt it was pretty damn accurate. It is definitely a system that is not without it's shortcomings. For example if you plan on playing it in a room with lots of sunlight or just light, the manual says it may not work. Thanks for bringing this up, I should have mentioned it. Luckily my den is pretty dark indeed and sunlight is not an issue. I can definitely see how many people would have issues getting it calibrated though, there are a lot of factors besides this getting it perfect, but I was lucky enough to get it perfect.
