[UK] Why do we not get hardware-based PS2 emulation in our PS3s?

Recommended Posts

Japan are selling a 20 GB model that feature hardware-based PS2 emulation and so did America (the 60 GB model).

However, one of the two UK versions allows PS2 emulation but it's software-based.

My question is - why?

Is software-based emulation better than hardware-based? I assume hardware-based emulation has ceased due to additional hardware costs.

The UK model is part hardware, part software.

There is NO fully based software emulation of PS2 games on the PS3 - If there was the 40GB would support PS2 games.

As for why the UK got that in the 60GB, I don't know, cut costs? Compatibility is high though...
