[UK] Where to buy the 60 GB PS3 model?

Recommended Posts

I am looking to buy a PlayStation 3 and it seems I have two choices: the 40 GB model and the 60 GB model.

They seem identical apart from the fact the 60 GB model has Flash card readers, SACD support and PS2 compatibility.

Where can I buy the 60 GB PS3 model?

EDIT: I've just found out the only model still in production in the UK is the 40 GB model. That means I'll have to buy a PS2 on top of the PS3 if I want to play PS2 games. I am very annoyed...

Unfortunately we could of told you this a while ago :(

Do you not have a PS2 mate?

PS3 60GB's are selling for massive amounts on ebay right now, I just sold mine for ?500:// (A 40GB PS3 and Slim PS2 new would cost you less than what the USED 60GB PS3s are going for>!)

It's not shipped yet though, the lady is doing a bank transer instead of using paypal - So no PS3 till payment heh.

One thing you could do is wait it out for CES and the next game show (it's in what 2 months?) to see if the 80GB comes out here. Rumours were a few weeks ago it would.

Are you saying it is cheaper to buy a PS2 and a PS3 40 GB than what the 60 GB model used to cost? If so, that lessens the annoyance.

Nah the 60GB model used to be ?350, and the 40GB was like ?299 - Although tbh on the launch of the 40GB you could easily get it for ?280 and you still can now. Amazing were doing it for ?269.99.

A PS2 slim is about what, ?100 or something?

So ?280 + ?100 would be ?380, or around there anyway = Higher than the RRP of ?350 for the 60GB (before it went away obviously)

The reason the 60GB is selling for soo much is for a few reasons...

A) People who want BC

B) The idea of getting the "feature cut" 40GB (BC aside, you aren't really missing anything)

C) Consumer demand, people see something is in high demand, they have this "natural" want for it, even if the 40GB would suit them

I'm just seriously annoyed that there isn't a PS3 for sale at retail level in the UK that can play PS2 games :(

I think its lame, One of my mum's friends PS2 died around xmas time so they rushed out after xmas and brought a PS3, not being told that the only ones on sale now don't play PS2 games.

Sony need to get the 80gb version out here quickly. There are people who want the BC and the memory slots(its great for seeing your photos on a telly)

but yeah, you can pick up a 40gb ps3 and a ps2 now for less than the 60gb model was, you lose the advantage of the ps3 wireless controller and the ease of having one system tho.

BC first, a memory card reader can easily be plugged into a USB port.

Something to think about though is future software support being added - It CAN be done. 360 runs off software.

I always felt it may come as I think Sony will one day try to add remote play support on the PSP for PS2 games on the PS3. Could easily be done seeing as PS3 games such as Lair (while bad is technically superior to PS2 games) can be done over remote play.

It would be nice if Sony would least put out an acknowledgement saying something like "Look we know no BC in the 40GB as there is no hardware, but we may/could do software at a later date".

try ringing around to blockbusters thats where i got mine from, they may still have some 60GBs still in stock, if not then ask around your stores in town Zaavi, HMV, Gamestation, Game, Chips etc etc. If you have no luck then your best friend is ebay but i think they tend to sell for more than the RRP there.

you can buy mine, although like audio said i wold expect a fair bit of money seeing as they are selling so well on ebay.

in actual fact, i was gonna hold off selling my 60gb for a while, but if an 80 with all the features comes out in the uk i may not get what i can get for it now.

if you are interested pm me, it is in pristine condition, 2 controllers, i'll chuck in a few games...

If you have a GameStation near you try them, they have preowned units cheaper than they were brand new! Also Pc World was advertising on the about having them in store check your local store.
