EGM: Sony working with major third party on remakes - Square Enix?

EGM's sometimes-right rumor mongerer, Quartermann, is now claiming that Sony has signed an agreement with a major third party Japanese publisher to create remakes for the PSN. 1UP further fuels the fanboy fire with a rather unhelpful (but exciting) tease that'll get our imaginations rolling:

"As for which publisher this is, the magazine doesn't reveal. Could it be Konami? A remake of Contra or Castlevania could be pretty sweet. Or Capcom? Ghosts & Goblins or Strider please. Or maybe even Square Enix? Chrono Trigger = OMG."

We're pretty certain the EGM team knows exactly what's going on -- but must keep their mouths shut on the specifics. Regardless, things are going to get pretty interesting later this year.

OMG FF7?!!?!?! :ermm:

Still this could be cool if it was stuff like Chrono Trigger. Doesn't need a total facelift, but just a good next gen, 1080p spruce up ;)

ZOMFG

I will smile so much if it is FF7 or in fact any Square-Enix game then. I guess a remake of FF7 would be a killer app for the console. However I wonder how long the said game has been in development for ?

IMO

Chance of a FFVII remake being done sometime 75% or greater

Chance of a FFVII remake before 2009 probably less then 1%

All there teams are currently working on other games. The teams that they would want to do would be mostly the team that is doing Final Fantasy XIII and the other team doing Final Fantasy VS XIII. Once those to games are out then Square Enix will at least consider doing a remake.

I look forward to seeing what remakes do come out.

Square Enix Remaking Games for the PLAYSTATION Network?

chrono.png

Remember about a week and a half ago, that EGM rumor stating that a Japanese publisher is remaking classics for the PLAYSTATION Network? Well, Square Enix just may be that publisher.

On Surfer Girl's (the girl with the inside scoop) blogger site, a commenter asked if she knew the company remaking classics for the PLAYSTATION Network. She simply replied "Square Enix".

Could be be seeing enhanced versions of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy Tactics soon on the PLAYSTATION Network? Let's hope that leads into a Final Fantasy VII remake.

Well it's no doubt we will see a LOT of Square Enix PS1 titles on the Playstation store (so you can buy them and play them on PSP and PS3).

But I'd love to see some good remakes.

I'd totally buy the games too. I missed out on alot of rpgs. Don't flame me but I never did play FF VII nor finished Chrono Trigger.

And if it is Capcom, bring back Breath of Fire III, I never finished that either...

Square Enix I love you. I will repeat ZOMFG ! Chrono Trigger please come to pal territories. It is sad to think that such a great game has not been available to buy in the UK.

Chrono Trigger needs a remake or another installment. That game just blows any other game away. Let it be SE!

I agree, that series need more titles, both games are awesome. I don't know why they didn't make more games. :(
