Sammyinnit
I won a PS3 but it's the 40GB version, and I've only one PS3 game and more PS2 games then you can shake a stick at. I was talking to a friend who owns the 60GB PS3 who said there is something available that can enable PS2 game emulation but he wasn't sure what. He said he would find out what it was, but I haven't seen him since last week. Does anyone here know to this?

Olemus
i dont think its possible with the 40gb im in the same kind of situation as you, and it does suck.
SnowRanger13
On the 20GB and 60GB PS3's (except for the EU 60GB) PS2 games ran on the PS2 GPU and the PS2 CPU. On the 80GB PS3 and the EU 60GB PS3 the games were emulated on PS3s Cell but still used the actual PS2 GPU. The 40GB dose not have the PS2 CPU or GPU, full emulation could be done but will require a lot of programing. What your friend heard about enabling PS2 support would be Sony writing full emulation for PS2, it could be done but there focusing on PS3 titles and Home right now. It might happen later but definitely not now, don't be waiting for it or anything. It just could happen.

Deron Dantzler
Play PS2 games on your PS2.
EnzoFX
^^ haha, as others mentioned, it is theoretically possible to eventually support it, its just not going to happen. Sony stated they will not work on this, as you can imagine, it would take too much work and resources.

I've got well over 100 PS1 and PS2 games. So, I see that the 80GB PS3 can play PS2 games. Does it also play original PS1 discs as well?

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted January 8, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted January 8, 2008 Cheapest way right now is to go buy a 2nd hand PS2. The programming needed would be extensive, and I don't think Sony will put the initial cost + support cost into this, when they want to sell PS3 over PS2. SnowRanger13
Very nice. Are all PS2 games supported, or is support added via firmware updates? Thanks. Like I said in my previous post. On the 20GB and 60GB PS3's (except for the EU 60GB) PS2 games ran on the PS2 GPU and the PS2 CPU.On the 80GB PS3 and the EU 60GB PS3 the games were emulated on PS3s Cell but still used the actual PS2 GPU. The 40GB dose not have the PS2 CPU or GPU, full emulation could be done but will require a lot of programing. The 80GB PS3 uses emulation for the CPU data, but actually has the PS2 GPU for graphics. So most games run fine, a few games have some small bugs, and a few games don't run but this can be updated more with firmware updates later. The 20GB and 60GB PS3 are more compatible with PS2 games but my friend with a 80GB PS3 has no problem with his many PS2 titles.
