While traversing the CES 2008 show floor, we came across a demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PlayStation 3. We're told it's the same demo as the hands-on kiosks at the Tokyo Game Show and E for All events last fall, but running on a separate screen above the demo was a running list of PS3 facts. Among these random facts was additional confirmation that Sony considers MGS4 a PS3 exclusive release.

Will the Xbox 360 port rumors ever die? Probably not, but at CES 2008, Sony' maintains you'll have to pick up their machine to finish Snake's journey.

Who cares? Alot of people don't even want to bother with snakes last journey since MGS2 and MGS3 sucked so badly. Konami are a great developer and all, but MGS's ship has long ago sailed. SC Conviction looks a better game. I know alot of fans are going to disagree with me and thats fine.

I am sick to death of the rumors about this game coming to x360, i knew it wouldnt happen, and so did many others. I couldnt care less even if it did. They are praising it like its going to be the best game ever in the history of games.....yeah right, get a grip Sony. They said the same thing about MGS2 and MGS3 and looked how that turned out.

Anyway, good news for PS3 fans.

What is the big deal with this game? I've played around with the previous ones and thought they were pretty standard at best.

Uhh you have most of the gaming industry to thank for that, not Sony! ;)

I have full confidence this game will blow everyones minds :D First time a decent online package looks to be taking place as well - Lets face it MGS3 online didn't exactly boom.

1st person/3rd person implemented properly as well is sweet.

Some people just don't like MGS though, you're either a liker or hater, doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. Probably because it has a tinge of Japanese humour/story tagged to it - You know, unreleastic events ect. So if you're against all games of Japanese origin, you'll probably dislike good portions of MGS.

It's not a brainless shooter, it has a deep story (not a aliens vs the world, or guy save the girl). Some people don't want that though.

The last two instalments didn't suck at all. They weren't as good as MGS by any means, but to call them bad games would just be naive.

Storyline of MGS3 was argubaly my favourite.

Killing Boss, then to realise she wasnt actually "bad" was :(

Audio. I LOVE japanese games so much. I like the ideas they bring, but MGS for me is very average at best. Of course no.4 graphically, will look amazing, but it will be just like MGS2 and MGS3 all over again. People live and die by solid snake and i did love him in MGS1 but the series has just worn off like sequels so i'm afraid. The Story you are right, its very deep, which made the original MGS so great, and although MGS2 & MGS3 did have a somewhat deep story put in, it was poorly excuted, but it doesnt mean to say the game was completely bad, just way off from the original. I just think there is SO much hype about this one game (Yes i did think Halo3 had way to much hype if anyone says anything) that its quite unreal, because hype aside, it will be an average game underneath. I want this game to be amazing, i really do, but i feel it just won't be that.

Hold on there ynnoj, I didnt mean to say they sucked completely, i mean they sucked against the original MGS. The original was utterly amazing and its up there as one of thee best games in History, but the sequels are somewhere in the middle of the average games.

Metal Gear Solid for me has one of those rare moments where I'd rather experience the story through feature length cutscenes (i.e. telling the whole story in nothing but CG cutscenes) or through multiple books (although I don't read too much) rather then playing the game. I guess maybe if I played the first game when it first came out I might think otherwise, but despite me knowing I'm missing out on an amazing story, I know I'll never complete those first 3 games - I simply don't have the time. It'll take me too long.

This is going to be it's downfall. A ton of people think that, and that's the first step towards the game being a letdown for all those people. Why do you think so many people thought Halo 3 wasn't that great?

Halo 3 didn't offer much new than the previous 2, not that that is bad, but Halo plays it safe. Thats my view anyway. I just think it is a safe series, adding new content each installation but not drastically changing - I think if it was to drastically change though, people would go bonkers, so it's one of the few games probably best to stick to what it has already established as a "want" by the consumer.

MGS4 is the first title in the series NOT to stick with the same old camera, same old crappy non-moveable 1st person view. If you watch the vids, you will see you can play the full game in 1st or 3rd person view.

It offers what looks to be a robust online game (in comparison to what was tacked on with MGS3).

It is also the FINAL conclusion to the MGS series - It will go out with a bang and tie up ALL the loose ends we have been left with. As a MGS fan how could you NOT want to know how it all ends?

It's like watching a trilogy, but deciding to stop at number 2 in the series as people are hyping the finale - Of course the conclusion will be hyped to high heavens.

In this case I think we are in for a real treat as a conclusion, Hideo is going to put every last bit of effort he has left in him to make sure this game delivers (Y)

And what? It's exclusive because Sony say so? Haha, yeah right. I think we all know from past experience that Sony are to not be 100% trusted.

I'm not saying it will come 360 for definate (though I predict it will, eventually, Konami would be idiots not to), just don't use Sony as a reliable source for this, they most likely don't know for sure themselves, but are saying it's exclusive to push those PS3 sales.

I agree with PiracyX. MGS on the PS1 was a masterpiece; I loved every minute of that game. MGS2 was a HUGE disappointment for me, MGS3 was an improvement but still nowhere near as great as MGS was. I wish they made a real sequel for MGS where you can actually just BE Snake -- not Raiden, not Big Boss, and not an old man version of Snake. For me, the series has gone stale and I personally don't think of it as a system seller anymore (I bought a PS2 for MGS2). Sure I'd buy (maybe rent) it if it came out on the 360 but I wouldn't buy either a PS3 or 360 just for MGS4.

Why do you own a 360 then :p

However I think MGS4 will be better then two, however as people have said on here the hype is already far to high. I think it has been said on a few other posts, that MGS4 is not a system seller like Halo 3. We have a wait until FFXIII, which I view as a system seller.

And what? It's exclusive because Sony say so?

Exactly.

Unless PS3 sales skyrocket upon the game's release, you will see this game on the 360, period. How else would they expect to recoup the millions of dollars in development cost? Are PS3 owners supposed to buy 2 copies each?

Beh...Konami themselves have said multiple times its PS3 exclusive. What part of the word exclusive don't you get? It's like saying FFXIII will come to 360 just because they made FFXI for Xbox.

Seems like certain gameheads are still upset over the fact that it won't be coming to their beloved console. Can't have it all.

I still love going through all the previous games (thank you BC hardware!). Can't wait 'til this is finally here... (Y)

lol, yeah that's what it is. I've never played a MGS in my life and couldn't care less about the new one. Konami don't care about your beloved console (honestly, what a childish remark). I'll tell you what they care about: money. Lots and lots of it. And if they want lots and lots of money, they will bring it to 360 in some form. Seriously, if they don't, they are literally throwing money away.

It's not like this would be the first time they have called something "exclusive" when it really isn't. For all we know, "exclusive" just means timed exclusive. I find it hilarious when fanboys get all worked up over exclusives. As long as it still comes out on your console and you can play it, why would you give a damn if it comes out on other consoles as well? For instance, I have a 360. If somehow Halo 3 and Bioshock came to the PS3 next week, why should I care? I got to play and enjoy them on my 360 and that's all that matters. In fact, I would be happy for PS3 owners they they get to enjoy the games too. I could understand if MGS4 was canceled for PS3 and then moved over to 360, but that's just not the case. It will come out a year later. PS3 owners still get to play and enjoy it on thier PS3's and a year earlier. Why in the hell would you care if it comes out on 360 as well?

While money is important, not all franchises get multiplatformed just for that reason. If that were so, we'd of seen a lot more games pop up else where.

FF has never left the PS3, and Square are not 1st party.... 3rd party exclusives while getting more scarce, still exist.

In going multiplatform you also increase development costs/man hours/work load, so it's all a game of balance - If you release a port, and it doesn't sell well, will that really of been worth it? It's clear when making a MGS game Hideo/Konami like to put 110% into one development platform instead of multitasking between two and going for a multi-release game - Never before has MGS (1/2) been released on multiple platforms at the same time. PC/Gamecube/360 came later.

As far as I can see it's exclusive, and that won't change unless it doesn't sell well on the PS3 - And I really can't see that happening with the express hype train that will be going at full steam up until the release of MGS4.

Well, considering they made an MGS for Xbox and Gamecube and they didn't sell very well one would rethink making it for 360. You have to remember that they would have to spend millions more just trying to port it over, and with the PS3 using Blu-ray their filling that disc up to the edge. You also have to remember that this is built from the ground up for the PS3 so it makes it very difficult just to get it working on a different console, not to mention time consuming trying to optimize it. Just because people keep saying to port it to 360 doesn't mean they'd actually buy it either...just fanboys who want it on their console to spite other fanboys.
