Arda82
Just got my PS3 after a year... I wanted to stay away from console games and have been playing PC for the last 2 years but i was so angry about how i have to download a video card patch for every time a game comes out and so dissapointed that my expensive 8800 gtx will not have the 10.1 features... which in my opinion is a sign that microsoft could not do things right with directx10... When Directx9 a b and c came out it was just an update and it had worked in every card that supports directx9a... so as I am upset and protesting PC games, nvidia and microsoft (which i doubt that they care) i wanted to get a PS3... Did not want to buy Xbox 360 since it was released a year before PS3 and PS3 had some better functions. After playing crysis at very high levels, i will be honest that PS3 graphics did not make me happy. And graphic wise i believe it is a little bit overrated. However the interfece, the functions are very good and playing it on a huge Plasma TV with HD and hearing the sounds at my 5.1 home theater simply closes the graphic gap and makes it a really fun hobby to play PS3.. Even my dad whom used to think computer games is a waste of time, he could not help it but appreciate Need For Speed at PS3 and even played a bit... So overall playing PS3 is only good at a huge plasma with 5.1 surround system. Otherwise PC is a better option. Even the great game like assasin's creed gives me the impression that i am playing a 1-1.5 year old PC game (graphic wise) I truly recommend PS3... I never played Xbox360 so would not know if graphics are better in which one. P.S. i wonder why PS3 games are much more expensive than PC games. Irritates me. Corris Veteran Posted January 8, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 8, 2008 You should of known that the PS3 (and Xbox360) wouldn't have the graphical capabilities of a high end pc, especically against Crysis being the most graphically powered game on PC to date. :p The graphics on the consoles are not overated as such, but you have to take into account that the graphical leap for these two consoles is from standard definition of older TV's to Hi-Def and generally better graphics due to more RAM and more powerful graphic cards, PC's have been doing both for a long time. And while your opinion might be that a PS3 is only good with a huge TV and surround sound otherwise get a PC, i would disagree. if i bought a PC for the money i spent on my PS3, i would most definately then have to upgrade it to play Crysis on high, and while that may be ok for some, what if i then wanted to play any future game at its best that say could be enhanced via DirectX 10.1, like you i would be annoyed at having to upgrade again. This what makes the PS3 or any console great, when you buy it it is then able to play any game during that consoles lifetime that is released for it without having to upgrade 2-3 years down the line, that is not only a good selling point but also why console gaming has become so big. I didn't expect so much, but i hope you apprieciate it as I've done the whole thing using my PS3 and the controller, lol.

I have a Xbox360 and an SD TV and I think all the games look fantastic. Much more so than my PC could pull off, which is pretty weak and 1.5 years old. Julius Caro
Don't be hating on nVidia too much, they make the graphics chips the PS3 uses :p *I think*
morficus
I disagree that you need to have an HDTV and at least a 5.1 sound system to enjoy the PS3. I've played my PS3 on an SDTV at my friends place and it was just as fun. IMO, an HDTV and 5.1 sound system just makes the PS3 that much more entertaining - but I won't go as far as saying you MUST have these in order to enjoy the PS3. *snip*I didn't expect so much, but i hope you apprieciate it as I've done the whole thing using my PS3 and the controller, lol. did you really? It must have taken you like 20min to type the up O.o Can somebody plz give Corris a USB keyboard so he can save time? :p Don't be hating on nVidia too much, they make the graphics chips the PS3 uses :p *I think* yeah, NVIDIA-SCEI "RSX" is the GPU in the PS3

I would give it up after the typing the first word. :) anyway back to the topic.. The idea of buyinga console and never upgrading it like PC is a great plus for the consoles i agree... But the thing is the sony ps3 is almost the price of a geforce 8800 gtx. If Microsoft and Nvidia had said that Directx10.1's all futures will be used my 8 series cards than spending few more hundred bucks to get a great PC would pay of well in the future. You would not be needing to upgrade it at least 2-3 years with such a powerful GPU. The graphics are way too amazing in PC but consistent patches to vista and nvidia are breaking my heart... Of course they are working HARD to make the hardwares better in compatibility but it is really irritating especially nvidia could manage to get drivers working well since a year after vista was released... Even now I can not play Hellgate London very well since it gives me the driver display stopped error in DX10 mode. Of course consoles do not have that. which is a great plus. On the subject of HDTV and 5.1 surrond system... If i did not have that setup at home, i would stick on PC games because of the graphical gap between 8800 gtx and ps3... For my own personal satisfaction that graphical gap was closed because of the huge screen and the 5.1 surrond system... Otherwise i am sure people have fun playing at smaller tvs.. Especially when in a party it is a blast. Thanx for the game recommendations too For now i just have Assasin's Creed, Resistance fall of men and Need For Speed... In turkey PS3 games cost around 120-140 US dollars :( so therefore cant buy as frequently as I could when i was using xbox back in USA.
Arda82
Also why the heck did Sony skip the vibrating controller in sixaxis? it is a GREAT controller being wireless and evertyhing but come on no vibration? eagerly waiting for Dual Shock 3. Sony couldn't integrate vibration because of the legal battle with Immersion over the technology behind it. That has since been resolved - after Sony paid out millions to Immersion - and now we have the DualShock 3. I bought two off of the Bay of E. ;)

As a minor FYI on the DX9a, b and c thing compared to DX10 and DX10.1, cards designed for SM2 (DX9a + DX9b) could not do DX9.0c in hardware at all, as it required SM3. BUt you could still install/use DX9.0c regardless, just as you will be able to with DX10 and DX10.1. DX 10.1 is just an update, cards that don't have DX10.1 features will continue to work under DX10.1, just not using the extra DX10.1 features. Exactly the same as with DX9a/b and DX9.0c. Nightz
not sure about putting game saves on an external drive, but you can easily replace the internal 40 gb with any 2.5" sata hard drive. i replaced mine with a 160 gb, and i hear they're working on a 500 gb drive too

Cloud Constructors
yeah I didn't buy it yet but I am just a student!! And comparing the PS3 to PC is not relevant as PC will always reign in the graphics department.
williamhook
AFAIK you can plug in virtually any USB Mass Storage device and it will work. I'm not 100% sure though, as I've not tried my USB HDD yet.
DPyro
You can save videos, pictures and copy game saves to an external HDD but you can't install game demo's etc.
