CES 2008: In-game XMB in 2008

Recommended Posts

Sony?s gaming division might have a small showing at this year?s CES, but that isn?t keep Paul Purdy from dropping some big PS3 news: in-game Xross Media Bar (XMB) access is confirmed for 2008. When pressed for a date or timeframe with more solidarity, the Sony rep countered with a "no further comments" and left us praying that the long-awaited feature will release sooner rather than later.

For those not aware, the PS3?s operating system is unavailable while in games. This prevents the use of custom soundtracks or messenging while a game is active, and since the Xbox 360 offers its users both while in-game, PS3 owners have been justifiably frustrated.

More information to come as it is released.

I could of told you it was coming in 2008... but glad they confirmed it. I wonder if you'll be able to access the web browser... Playing PS1/PS2/PS3 RPGs and being able to pause and go to www.gamefaqs.com is like a dream of mine.

I'd just like to see in-game messaging.

Same here, I don't care about all other things, maybe music, but I want ingame messaging.

About time and it will be appreciated. I just hope that when it releases we don't get threads like "My Ps3 crashed while playing Warhawk and listening to custom music""My Ps3 froze while accessing Messaging in Call of Duty 4" If none of those things happen and it actually works well then Awesomness!
