PSP 3.80 M33 CFW to be released tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Heads up, Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew fans - more info has just been released about the upcoming Custom Firmware 3.80 M33, direct from Mathieulh himself. No, it's not yet released, but there is a special bit of news that should make you eager for its arrival all the more - and it has something to do with the way it's going to update your PSP.

So, what's the new info? First off, an exact ETA of the firmware itself - that is, tomorrow. Apparently, a lot of people were expecting it to be released today, but due to an unexpected delay of sorts, it didn't happen.

The reason for this - and brace yourself - is that Dark_AleX has made it so that this new firmware would update the same exact way that Sony's official firmwares do, via WiFi. That means that it's going be a hassle-free, no-messy-installation-needed update (of course, you have to access Network Update for it), and certainly a very welcome addition to the host of features the custom firmware brings.

It could also mean that from now on, all updates will be cumulative - that is, if you've been out of the loop for quite a while and suddenly upgrade to the latest firmware, you won't have to go through the long, hard slog of upgrading through the previous firmwares you've missed. Convenient, and definitely justifies the 24-hour delay.

About time :D. The update feature sounds really nice. Dark_AleX FTW!!!

I am still using OE at the moment. I've been meaning to upgrade to CFW for a while now. If it comes out tomorrow, means i got all weekend to do it. I think i have to recover mine to 1.50 before i can upgrade to it.

Nope, all firmware, as long as its custom can be updated to newer custom firmware.

Fat PSP yeah?

what i really want is to be able to play games full screen on my tv using the tv out cables....

Can't that be done?

I know the PSP outputs at a certain res, but does your TV's "zoom" function not make it go fullscreen?

Yeah a fat one, running 3.40 OE i believe.

(Y)

By the way, my bad, I believe you need to update to 3.52 M33 first, then you can go to 3.80 M33.

Reason being, I think there was some substantial changes in 3.52.

Yeah that's what i thought, so i just need to recover my PSP to its 1.50 state and i should be fine. Just gotta read up on how to do that.

No need to do that, 3.40 OE can go to 3.52 M33 just fine.

Oh right, i got confused there. That should make things easier.

Thanks.

Yup.

To get to anything over 3.52 M33 such as 3.71 or this new 3.80 you must be at 3.52 M33 as a minimum. Anything < 3.52 M33 must be updated to 3.52 M33 before trying to reach 3.71/3.8 M33.

yup, quite straightforward

3.40OE>3.52m33-4 (there were some revisions, I think you need latest so you can go higher) > 3.80 m33

Yep, it was easy :p

Just did it in 10 minutes. Just going to apply the updates now

I've got a quick question regarding this custom firmware: Would installing it disable online gaming on the PSP? When you connect to an infrastructure game, it does that DNAS check. Will it pick up on the custom firmware and kick me off or ban my PSP altogether?

Sorry for the n00b question but I recently got a PSP and have been looking into custom firmwares. When this is released and I install it would remote play still work? Nothing impresses your friends more than hooking up your psp to their TV and streaming a movie over the net.

Yeah every function of the PSP works fine in CFW.

The reason some of us are saying "remote play will work again!" is because with PS3 firmware 2.10 you HAVE to be running PSP firmware 3.80 for remote play to work.

I've not tried playing on line with the PSP so i wouldn't know. I'd assume it would be fine, i think it would check the game over the actual PSP.
