Resistance 2 Revealed

Recommended Posts

60 players is plain stupid imo. here is an example "ey follow me over there" umm other guy "follow who, whoz talkin" then he is like "im talkin just follow me" lol communication will not be good at all. i think the beiggest multiplayer number should be 32.

BF2 fixed this by only being able to voicechat within your squad (5players I believe)

Could also be fixed by using proximity voicechat - so that your teammates in the other end in the map cant hear you, but those near you can..

60 people online :o

As Resistance was a launch title, you just knew these guys could outdo themselves with a more time with the PS3!

Can't wait for this.

Score up another great PS3 game for 2008!

We should wait until there is either more info or it is released and reviewed before we start claiming this as a hit title (look what happened to the first Resistance, and Lair).

Sounds too good to be true imo, but hopefully I'm wrong. It's good and all saying you have 60 players in a match, but at what cost does with the connectivity.

Yes, it sounds way too good to be true. Its like they decided to steal every good point from an FPS and then promise it to us bigger and better than ever. They better not be BSing this.

60 players will be a nightmare. As was said, communication will go out the window on a 30 player team (it will be like trying to talk to a specific kindergardener in a class of 30). I also hope they not only up the variety and AI, but the color count. Im tired of all the PS3 games looking like 10 shades of grey and brown. Realism isn't the only thing we want, especially in a fictional game.

Seems many of you guys never tried playing videogames on a "Personal Computer"

If the map sizes allows for that many players, what is the issue?

The more the merrier :D

Sounds just awesome, I'm currently making my way through Resistance at the moment, but all this sounds soo awesome, can't wait for this.

60 player battlefields would defiantly be hectic, but is that not how war is? and putting people into smaller teams on a big map sounds really good for people who love teamwork, the best thing about Battlefield 2 was when you joined a squad that actually played like a squad.

Changing geometry sounds like a nice lil touch while playing, and 2 campaigns, one for single and one for multi-player, well that's just awesome.

and apparently its all been confirmed by a developer, well, apparently he's one of the developers, and he's only said "Finally" (NeoGaf)

Which is good enough for me, that and the images form Game Informer. :p

People are saying that this could be the most anticipated title for the PS3 in 2008, even surpassing a couple of major titles like MGS4, GT5 and Killzone 2. I'm currently making my way through COD4, really brilliant game. The graphics are shining, but it's using up the power of my PS3 quite abit, 3-4 hours into playing it my fans were kicking on full speed, on my dead quiet 40gb! :|

This is definitely going to help solidify 2008 as the year of the PS3.

I started out with games like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 and UT2k4. I have played many games with more than 30 people, and none of them are as entertaining as the ones with less than that number. Sure, they are fun, but completely unorganized. It was very hard to get people to work for one objective simply because everyone was busy "doing what they wanted to do" or at least fighting over it. It was really just chaos and looking out for yourself.

I just suck at FPS with a controller. If more games start to allow the use of a mouse and keyboard, I'll constantly be playing them.

You know what though, I am sure you are just like me and measure your performance on how accurate you are with a KB&M. You have to let that go, I eventually did and enjoy myself that much more.

Truth is, Most people using the controller on FPS on a console are all not terribly accurate. So this fact makes up for it all honestly...

The best example I an offer is COD4. I always feel as if I am doing horribly, but I am never in last place, never, and I am actually usually in the Top 5 (counting both teams not just mine), and sometimes I even sneak out a Top 1 spot. And I am only a rank 20 (would be probably a 55 by now but when my 360 died I started over on the PS3 version), and I get to play maybe 4 hours total on a normal week. I am also playing against people who are easily ranked 200+ thanks to prestige mode, yet I never feel outgunned.

My point is people get by on consoles without being super accurate with the controller. I know of a few members here who are the exception to the rule, and they are deadly accurate with a controller, they truly are (my old games of Halo 03 with Und3roath, Trong, and DrunkMunky come to mind, all 3 of these guys are extremely accurate with a controller and there are actually other members but right now they stick out), however I truly believe that the average player is just like me... We can hold our own and can still stay competitive even without not being extremely accurate.

And this is me talking as someone who has been forced to use the dualshock controller the past month since my 360 has been out of commission, and I hate the PS controller, I truly do, mainly because I just cannot get comfortable with it, especially the shoulder (or what should be the trigger) buttons.

So I have been playing COD4 with a controller I barely can even use (or should I say prefer to use), and again, I do just fine comparatively speaking. Sure, I am not all that accurate, but I can tell you first hand (especially thanks to COD4's killcam), most people playing it are not that accurate at all, and honestly after seeing Kill Cam kills, I think I am slightly above the average user with their accuracy... I am blown away how many times I die thanks to knee and ankle shots.

So my point in this response/more like a rant (I am also watching the Giants game who are my team so I have been in and out of focus), is throw out any ideas of how accurate you should be with a controller, and just practice, practice, practice. I actually found in my beginning days on the console (XBox 1 and Halo 1) that to help things out I would put my sensitivity to very, very low, so it moved extremely slow, just to get used to using the controller over all and especially to get used to aiming. Eventually you then dial up the numbers to whatever you want, but starting out, try the sensitivity extremely low, even if for a day or two, it just gets you feeling more confident overall, at least it did for me.

With all this said, I cannot lie, it feels damn good being able to play UT3 on the PS3 with a KB&M, I just hope they iron out the slight mouse lag that happens once in a blue moon.

I don't like the inaccuracy of a mouse and keyboard, especially mice picking up unintentional movements (so not a hardware problem) - therefore I find consoles even less appealing. Just because everyone is struggling an equal amount doesn't make it enjoyable. I'm sure I'd get better playing them a lot but Halo 3 did my head it.

I used to play UT on my pc for hours every day so it just seems so weird playing it with a controller. I mean, I'm not totally horrible. But I am nowhere near the level I used to play at while using the kb and mouse. I was almost automatic at aiming. I didn't need to think at all. I was always just shooting in the right place. Now with the controller in UT3 I just fire in the direction of anything moving in hopes to hit it. WHat used to take me 1 or 2 shots now takes me like 5 or 6. I just have to get used to it I guess.

I'm different than most people. I hate FPS in PC. Never liked mouse and keyboard and that is one of the main reasons I don't like the genre as much as others but I'm starting to like it more on consoles because of the controller. Maybe is because Ive been using controllers since I was a kid but I don't know I just prefer controllers. No difference in the end, I still suck with both.

More Resistance 2 details emerge

Semi-official Sony blog Three Speech has let loose more details of the newly unveiled Resistance: Fall of Man sequel.

Action will take place in the United States, apparently, and feature partially randomised geometry to keep things fresh each time you blast through it.

Those gigantic 60-player online battles will be squad-based, and have you choose your role from one of three classes: a hardy soldier with heavy weaponry, a special ops type for ranged attacks like sniping and a medic.

Resistance 2 will matchmake you with others of your skill too, ensuring you never face a team disproportionately better than yours.

New enemies will also feature, unsurprisingly, such as Chameleon and Stalker baddies with a cloaking ability. Arnold could beat them.

Insomniac has also taken feedback from the first game to improve long checkpoints and the health system, as well as using more of the PS3 power to cram greater numbers of enemies on screen and boost their intelligence to Key Stage 2.

Yesterday US magazine Game Informer revealed its Resistance 2 cover feature, effectively announcing its arrival to the world.

The biggest new additions are a separate eight-player co-operative campaign (or two-player in local mode), and the enormous online battles.

Resistance 2 is due for release this year on PS3, according to Three Speech, and you can see the first shots over in our gallery.

More info!

Sleeper hit of 2008? (I know Resistance is fairly big, but I think a lot of people assumed stuff like KZ2, GoW2, ect would crush a Resistance sequel? no?)

They better realize quickly that Matchmaking is BAD! It is a horrible system compared to a server list.

I agree - I want to be in control - they offer much more information too

Oh no - now they will have to charge a monthly fee for this little feature :p

Okay. I am resurrecting this thread from page 4 as I finally got my issue of GI yesterday, and read the cover story on Resistance 2 last night.

Simply put, this game went from being on my list of games I am interested in playing in to being an absolute must have game, and perhaps wind up being GOTY contention.

I shared my reservations about 60 players several times in this thread, but after reading the article, if they pull off what they are trying to pull off, it is going to be damn impressive. Basically the whole idea is you meet up with a squad of several other players in a lobby, and then you join the 60 player game as that squad with a certain objective. So they said there will be several squads with several objectives (obviously another squad whose objective is the opposite of yours), so although you very well may run into other squads on the playing field, you very well may not since each squads objective is different. They also want to do the lobby before hand of just your squad to promote true team work, are promising cell phone quality voice chat, etc.

I just think that sounds amazingly kick ass.

Then there is the 8 player Coop, where you can pick one of 3 classes. Assault, Special-Ops, and Medic, and each class has their own strengths and weakness'. The CoOp is actually a whole other campaign from the perspective of the soldiers who fight with Nathan (is that his name?) when you just do the Single Player. They said it very well may be people you never see on the opposite side of the battlefield. So it essence it will be a whole different experience. Again, sounds very cool to me.

Honestly that is only the tip of the iceberg, there is tons about new procedures for the AI, levels geometry varying each time you load them, how they already have most of the game completed from a stand point of it is playable, the huge boss battles they are going to introduce, etc. Really sounding like they are doing they damned best to push the genre just a bit further. Nothing truly groundbreaking (although their plans with the AI and their ideas of Boss Battles do interest the hell out of me), but things that are without a doubt much needed refinement.

So if you can find the scans online (looks like the post above mine by AB) or can pick up a copy at your local Gamestop or EB games, I highly recommend reading this exclusive. It truly made the game go from wanted to must have in my book, and that is not easy to do. And if you are a newer owner of a PS3, and have not gotten a chance to play the first game, rent it at least. Considering this is the developer behind the Resistance & Ratchet & Clank, I truly think this may be an incredibly big hit this year as I get the feeling people are not expecting as much as they plan on delivering. Only time will tell if it pans out, but I am also pretty sure considering their high ambitions, it will not be seen until early 2009.
