simmorya
I just received several emails from SCEE (Sony Europe) that tell me to contact Activision about the patch. This is the first email i got: Thank you for your recent email. You will need to contact the publisher of Call of Duty 4 about the online patch. To contact Activision go to www.activision.com or to call them on 1902 263 555 ($2.48 per minute). Regards, Trevor PlayStation Support Centre So If sony are telling me to ask Activision for the patch, then Infinity Ward is lying to us by saying its Sony's fault for holding up the patch. simmorya
I know its pretty basic but wouldnt't sony say something about it? Why would they tell me to contact Activision? I mean how does a patch take 1-2months to go through certification?
itsnotabigtruck
I know its pretty basic but wouldnt't sony say something about it? Why would they tell me to contact Activision?I mean how does a patch take 1-2months to go through certification? To pass the buck. CSRs nearly everywhere don't know crap, and even if they could find out about anything, usually aren't the least bit interested in doing so. You aren't going to be able to get a straight answer from either Activision, SCEA, or Infinity Ward.
OMEGA_RAZER
Why would they tell me to contact Activision? To pass the buck and because they wouldn't want to take the blame if it is their fault and pretty much everything else itsnotabigtruck said. Why would they tell me to contact Activision?I mean how does a patch take 1-2months to go through certification? No, Sony wouldn't say anything about it, and it probably is being held up by them. The guy's name who sent this obviously generic response probably isn't even Trevor... :p Seriously, it's generic - if there's a problem with a game, they're going to tell you to contact the developer of that game - it would be what Customer Support people are told to do for any problem for any game. -Spenser

Bhav
Infinity Ward is not lying LOL...seriously calm down! Not everyone at Sony knows about the patch...only the relevant people who need to know for the testing and certification will know, and these aren't the people that answer the phones or reply to emails! SCEE is just taking ages to complete testing and certification. Infinity Ward, and we, can do nothing but wait. @Huleboeren: don't know if you're just kidding, but it is on their end. For PS3, the servers are outsourced to DemonWare, who apparently didn't anticipate the demand and all their systems have been crapping up ever since. They did some server side fixes which improved things quite a bit, but the patch will improve things further in Europe (since the patch has already been released in NA!). Also...we'll then get to play against people in NA because you can't have patched vs. unpatched matches.

Coldgunner
one big thing we are all forgetting is that europe has a huge variety in languages. in the US a patch can come out quickly because its only english. in Europe a patch needs to be tested and certified for each language. hence the hold up. Huleboeren
Over at the official forums they are thinking of releasing ONE patch in Europe and TWO patches in the US Europe patch = connectivity patch and kill-cam-patch-thingy with new features American patch 1 = connectivity patch (already released over there..) American patch 2 = kill-cam-patch-thingy with new features

Probably why it's taking so long, but just as importantly what Coldgunner said about the languages.

Corris Veteran Posted January 25, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 25, 2008 From the IW forums apparently. Hey Everyone --Alright everyone, some huge progress has been made on the Patch. There we're some bugs found during testing that had to be addressed, which sent the patch back to us at Infinity Ward to address and re-test. I'm happy to say that the fixes and re-testing has been completed and it is on the final leg of certification and release now. The patch was sent off this morning / last night back to Sony Europe for final certification. We don't have any time line on how long it will take, although we're hoping for a quick turnaround as it's already received extensive testing. If we are provided with a timeline from the certification team, I will be sure to pass it along to you guys. This is the last step to release, once this is finished it should be available on your Playstation 3. I will let you know when you can expect it when I know. Thank you for all of your patience and I'm looking forward to playing with a lot more of you online in Europe when this connectivity patch comes out.
