PS3 Production Cost Down 50%, Sony Finally Breaking Even

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one who thinks a 50% decrease in production cost at this point a little early? The console is barely over a year old and the technology in the system is not much different than what's in the $500+ players. Maybe I'm missing something :/

$400 is still VERY high, when you think how the Wii made a profit on its price point from day 1.

This is just a natural trend in technology. When Blu Ray came out, it had no market, was expensive to manufacture, and therefore cost Sony a lot - It's a no brainer the internal Blu Ray drive ramped up PS3 costs.

Now Blu Ray is more widespread, been out for a year or so and is the dominant format, prices of manufacturing have come down.

They took away a lot of features originally in the console, however it still pretty bold to have that much of a decrease.
