Little Birdie: In Game XMB Sooner Than We Think?

Why would they? Xbox Live works extremely well how it currently is, not to mention it is very successful too. It is more likely PSN will become a subscription service, then Live becoming reduced in price or even completely free in my opinion.

PSN is not going to become subscription based, its the one area they can get a massive 1-up on Live.

Money will be earned through advertisements/micro transactions.

Look at how much money something like SecondLife is surrounded by, and it's free to download.

Yes Live works well, but if PSN manages to offer the same as what Live offers but for free, why would it be PSN changing?

MS are the odd ones out here in the sense that they have pioneered charging for a service like Live.

Steam does something very similar but is free.

No no, you misunderstood me, I didn't mean to imply PSN would become subscription based. All I meant was it would be more likely PSN would become subscription based then Live becoming cheaper/free, i.e. never. As MS have been asked before if they'd reduce/remove the subscription fee for Live, in light of PSN been free and they said not going to happen.

EDIT: I think the only thing that would make MS even consider reducing/removing the subscription fee is, if there was a sudden massive drop in Live Gold subscribers and a massive increase in people using PSN. Otherwise, I don't see it happening, MS is quite happy taking our money and obviously the thousands of Gold subscribers are happy to pay.
