CloudEngineer
have you tried holding down the power button until you hear the two beeps? (approx 10 seconds)
morficus
have you tried holding down the power button until you hear the two beeps? (approx 10 seconds) yeah, I was about to recomend this. This will do a soft reset (data will not be lost, just display (and sound?) settings) Simply plug in the HDMI cable, power on the PS3 then hold your finger over the power button on the console for a while. It should beep twice then shutdown. Now turn it back on and it should auto-detect what output port you are using, then try to auto-detech what resolution your TV can handle. Whey trying to auto-detect the resolution, the screen will go blank (or black if you may) for a few seconds (about 10 - 15). Just wondering... what TV do you have? zeta_immersion
i'll have to check for the tv when i get home ... (is an european tv anyway) ... i will try the soft reset a few times more see if it helps .... it is most likely the tv or the ps3 stuck on the composite .... thanks guys
Master Ryu
It's definitely the soft reboot. This happened to me to when I first got my HDMI cable. I don't think the PS3 manual even has this information.

Im pretty sure it does - if it mentions how to change the harddrive Im certain it has soft reboot instructions too :p
DPyro
Are you sure the HDMI cable even works? Black screen might suggest it doesn't...and since its a digital cable it either works or doesn't. You might also want to check what resolutions you've set the PS3 to display at, the HDTV might not support what your setting it as.
zeta_immersion
ok, i have found the following, and i hope someone can help me out ... i have bought the following cable //http://www.monstercable.com/productDisplay.asp?pin=3831 and i also found this one //http://www.monstercable.com/productDisplay.asp?pin=4199 is there any difference between the 2 cables? ... if so what? ... because they are both HDMI and therefore to my small knowledge the signal should travel and at least display something ... DPyro
In my opinion, their both a waste of money for what you should really be spending.

DPyro
The difference is how much you paid for it really.

Wannes
You must now that a video output of your PS3 is "registered" so the settings are stored. If you played anolog before (with the colored cables) and then plug in HDMI, nothing will happen. That's why the soft reset is in place. The soft reset will configure your playstation as it's the first time booting. The video and sound settings will be reset and loaded again. If this doesn't help you really should be getting another HDMI cable. You don't need to get some expensive one, just get a normal $20 one and you're fine. ( $ 20 is the price in Belgium, it seems that they are cheaper in the US )

Master Ryu
I'm not sure where you are, but Newegg has very cheap HDMI cables that start around $5. I bought my cable from that site- $7. It works fine.
