[MP][PC] Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare

Recommended Posts

Thank goodness, Call of Duty 4 is not based on World War II campaigns anymore.

I guess there are times when we have enough of World War II games out there (First Person Shooter, Strategy, you name it). Don?t get me wrong, I am a fan of World War II games, but seeing Operation Overlord (D-Day, when the Normandy beach was stormed by the Allied forces) over and over on different games had turned me off a bit.

Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare is, as the title says, a first person shooter game in a modern world. You will see weapons, tanks, helicopters and other war killing machines and weaponry from today?s era. I honestly didn?t expect much from Call of Duty 4, as I already got bored of the Call of Duty "franchise". After a lot of recommendations from people to play Call of Duty 4, I decided to try it out and was stunSingle Player and Gameplayay

After completing the tutorial mission (involves some shootings and knifing a watermelon), the first mission caught my eye and took my breath away.

The graphic is stunningly beautiful (I like to sacrifice some of my frame rates to make sure that I see the greatest that the game designers can offer) and I especially love how your squadmates move and do stuffs like a real special forces unit; stacking up before opening a door, breaching doors when necessary, and taking covers during firefights (enemies are taking cover too).

When the enemies take cover, they really mean it. Most of the time you either have to flank them, or simply wait until they "peep" behind their cover so that you can shoot them down. The enemies will also spray their gun aimlessly while still behind their covers, smart!

The missions are varied: assaulting a cargo ship in the middle of the night during a storm, protecting your friends with a sniper rifle, giving a fire support from an airship above the ground, and many others that I won?t spoil it here. These kind of missions give a variety to the game, so you don?t simply being given a rifle and then try to mow down the enemies on each level/map. The variety of the mission will make you shout "More, more!".

Alas, "More" is what you will shout at the end of the single player campaign. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare?s single player campaign is short, indeed. If you are really into it, you can probably finish this game during the weekend. Although more is good, sometimes less is better. At the end of the game, I had this feeling of satisfaction that I haven?t experienced for a while from a game. If only I have a much more powerful card than a 7600GT, then I?ll probably enjoy tMultiplayer>Multiplayer

Multiplayer is probably where this game shines. I said, probably, because I, myself, don?t really like the multiplayer experience. It?s fast and breath taking alright, but I found that there are too many camping spots on the maps. Not that it is bad, but when you do get shot down from campers a few times in a row, then you?ll understand what I?m talking about. As well as a team deathmatch, you will also find missions like planting/defusing the bomb, assaulting/defending an HQ, etc.

You select a class at the beginning of a mission which limit the sort of weaponry that you can bring and also perks/abilities (Assault class, Demolition class, etc). You unlock more classes and perks when you make more points in the game (by killing, assist in the killing, or by winning the round). Another thing that I hate during the multiplayer is the grenade spamming. One of the perks give you an ability to have more grenades and on a small map, this can be deadly.. and annoying. On every start of the round, the "spammers" will start spamming grenades and you?d better pray that you are not there when the grenades land.

All in all, the gameplay, the animations, the graphics, the music, and the overall multiplayer experience, make this game a must have if you are looking for a new FPS multipla8.5 / 10 s game an 8.5 / 10 (due to the multiplayer experience and a short single player campaign)

blogs :(

And in this case - that's perfectly allowed. He copied and pasted his own original content that contributed to what this forum is for. He had prior permission to do so as well. Therefore - please explain what the problem is.

This game was ultimately mediocre and it gets a 2/5 from me.

I thought the SP campaign was really mediocre at best; enemies were all the same! (shoot at you and toss nades every 15secs, then club you when you get close) And it was pretty much the same as COD2.

MP, on the otherhand, i've heard much about. I haven't played it yet, but my friends are enjoying it greatly.

Maybe he's trying to say that people who write in blogs are not to be trusted (as they can say anything they want)

What, you mean like EVERY SINGLE POST ON THE FORUM?

Anyway, this game was a breath of fresh air for me, purely because of the multiplayer.

Normally I'm not much of a fan of the "poke head out and die in 0.00123s" style of "realistic" gameplay that it focuses on (a bit like counterstrike), but they've done it so well that it's still a lot of fun to play. It doesn't matter if you die, you can respawn just as quickly and you can see how they killed you (which for me does take a lot of the frustration off of it). Nobody can really get away with camping too much because they give away their position when they fire or kill someone.

I found myself on edge from the moment I spawned until the moment I died, there was always the possibility that someone could come up behind me or hide behind a box I was running past and just the pressure alone made it feel unique.

Plus the reward system is excellent, I really did find myself pushing my limits trying to get the next promotion or complete a certain challenge and better still, they teach you how to play the game in the best way possible - by playing it.

Like for example, I had no idea how airstrikes and helicopters worked, my first assumption was that it was like BF2 in that some guy became the "commander" or whatever, but I didn't really care and just played it having fun all the same, then out of nowhere I realise I can call in a UAV.

Some time later boot camp opened and it explained why this was and even rewarded me for it.

I'm no good at the game, I've got a K/D ratio of something like 0.54 and I'm at rank 18 I think, but it's just so much fun to play, it didn't matter to me.

My biggest gripe with it are the people that play the game, shouting stupid things down the mic, getting ****y when someone kills them, they take away from the game but unfortunately that's not a fault of the game, that's a fault of people.

Overall, I have to give COD4 a solid 9/10. It's an FPS and FPS's by definition are simply not original, yet it still manages to feel like a completely new experience and what we have seen before in other games, infinity has done perfectly here.

I guess you haven't played COD 1 or 2 online then? the online plays pretty much the same which is is why it's successful. Why change something that works?

Many clans and players who have been playing cod1 mp moved to cod2 mp because it played exactly the same. The same happened in cod4, although some clans stayed in cod2 because cod4's easier to play.

And I call bs on your claim that FPS games can't be original. Stalker was a good attempt at bringing originality and RPG-like features to an FPS game. I could say the same about Tribes which was sort of ahead of its time when it came out, huge maps, vehicles and missions to accomplish, build destroy objectives, etc.

FPS games can be original. The problem is companies aren't trying that hard and are simply either immitating the winners or they're doing the same thing that is successful (cod 2) and simply making it better (cod4).

Okay, even though this is meant to review MP I'm gonna mention singleplayer. Singleplayer is.. too short and the levels aren't that good either I think the only level I liked were "All Ghillied Up","One Shot, One Kill","Shock and Awe" ,"Aftermath" and "Mile High Club". Anyway..

Multiplayer generally is okay, I like most of the maps, alot.. and other I hate alot. The only thing that really gets me annoyed in the game(and it's not the games fault) is that some people really over use the grenade launchers and RPG's.. ect.

Overall if it was down the game and not the players, I'd give this a 4/5

I love Call of Duty. It's a fun game series. Veteran is a nice challenge.

I played the MP of CoD4 but it does not fit the name of the game and there are too many cheaters on there. I can't see or make out enemies they blend in the background. Maybe just because I play much Halo 3 MP. Beside "Call of Duty" means the duty to do things for your country. What do you do in MP? Very much same as in other FPS's MP. in the CoD single player, you do REAL-like missions that actually help others like disabling things or capture and defending an area.
