As far as I am aware it's CPU, of course if you are trying to stream 1080p over a WiFi G network then you are not going to be able to get smooth video because there is not enough bandwidth available as it maxes out at 54Mbps.

If you're just remuxing any decent PC will be fine, all it's doing is changing the extension. If you're transcoding files then CPU is what you're after.

Hey man, any ideas with my issue?

With a few files that I copy to my ps3 from PS3 media server, they transcode from .mkv and then are sent to my PS3, so with the larger movies I do it over night, but sometimes they dont stop. Like for instance with a movie (7gb in size) I left it over night and it had ''copied'' 20gb to my PS3 but it wasnt complete. This has happened a few times with other files too. Any ideas?

I wouldnt ask again, but it keeps happening D:

I wouldnt ask again, but it keeps happening D:

If it's transcoding, it transcodes to MPEG 2 which has horrible compression compared to x264. Reason it does this is on the fly transcoding to x264 wouldn't be fast enough on 95% of PCs, therefore MPEG2 is a better option and quality loss isn't that much worse than x264. When you copy a file to the PS3 over the media network, same rules apply with streaming, the file must be muxed/transcoded into something the PS3 can play.

So to be honest a 7GB file could well go into the 20GB's if it has to be transcoded.

You're better to use MKV2VOB for that specific video file, and make it transcode into x264 if you must have the file on your PS3 - http://www.mkv2vob.com/showthread.php?tid=1. This will create a permanent file on your PC that you can then copy onto the PS3.

Personally I just stream EVERYTHING so if anything needs transcoded it does it on the fly. I only occasionally copy videos onto my PS3 hard drive, but not that often.

New build

Latest builds [2009-12-04] / Current revision: 369

Windows: http://ps3mediaserver.org/files/pms-set ... 11.369.exe

Linux: http://ps3mediaserver.org/files/pms-linux-1.11.369.tgz

changelog between r369 and r366:

- Newest Windows binaries of FFmpeg, mplayer and mencoder. Mencoder-mt is *not* updated: you can try the one from sherpya here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayer ... z/download

- Auto rotation of images based on EXIF orientation, only on PS3

- New option to start basic streaming in the #transcode folder (request of meskibob)

- Static UUID, multiple server instances appearing on the renderer should be a thing of the past

- A few bugfixes

How odd that it's gone back to v1.11 (rxxx) the last release fixing the corruption was given a release number of 1.20 :D

Updated anyway, thanks Ab.

That other build was fan compiled, you can grab the latest code and compile it yourself if you know what you're doing. Usually Shagrath compiles a build after there's been a few changes/fixes, not every time he modifies the code.

Ahhh fair enough, thanks for the explanation. :)

Anyone getting some issues with un synced audio playing mkv's?

Running latest beta and is it transcoding or muxing?

Im having trouble with the program, it wont connect to my ps3. is there anything i need to change in windows? im on windows 7.

Probably firewall/router firewall related. First off is your PS3 NAT2? Check under network info settings on PS3 XMB.

Probably firewall/router firewall related. First off is your PS3 NAT2? Check under network info settings on PS3 XMB.

its not because of the firewall cause i turned it off then i tried it again. yea playstation is NAT2. it also says in the traces page that i should see it on the xmb

So here's the story:

Last week or so I upgraded my once Vista x64 machine to Win7 Pro x64 and just today got around to installing PS3MS again for my streaming needs. However, it doesn't seem to want to play my mkv files anymore (movies). When I click on one it takes aaages to load up from a black screen and then every couple of seconds it stops and jutters and seems to be transferring more data. As such the movie is impossible.

Now I haven't installed any codecs or anything at all yet, I was under the impression PS3MS didn't need them? Or maybe it does for certain file types ... ?

Any ideas would be welcome. :)

Here's something I wrote in another thread;

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...#entry592061060

I didn't have the problem with PS3MS, didn't use it while I had the problem but it took me ages to find a reason for the problem.

Now I've heard time and time again people are having these connection issues after upgrading to Windows 7 and the above was my

fix for it - After I disabled IPv6, everything was good.

If it doesn't work, you can just enabled it again :)

Someone please give me my first rep for the first post in this topic, pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase ;)

As for something related, PS3MS SVN Builder - http://hotfile.com/dl/18246764/b0a74b1/PMS_SVN_Builder.rar.html

You can check the latest trunk changes here and see we are actually at 372 - http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/source/list, Even although Shagrath has only compiled to 369 himself.

Rep given :p

I really need to get a better media server for this, it times out on my Revo (Single core Atom) and tells me that there are no files in the folders when using custom thumbnails.

I use MediaLink by Nullriver for my PS3 media connection (and Connect 360 by Nullriver for my 360) to my Mac. They are $20 each (one time fee, upgrades always free).

For anyone interested in checking them out:

    • I gave up on browser ad-blocking extensions a few years ago, replaced them with Adguard. Not perfect but overhaul is a nice app that does the job on both Windows and Android with the respective versions.

When they kill that we get to watch Firefox and Brave get a boost in user market share.
    • Block by DNS ad blocker! I dare you! I will even layer unlock Origin, on top of my internal DNS, if I need to and I don’t even block ads today (I really should but this type of behavior makes me angry). I suppose I could also just be lazy, and add the flags myself, back to each release (it wouldn’t be that difficult).
    • Wonder what MPs have ties to these privacy/verification/data harvesting companies that are going to step in this time. Last time under the Tories half the cabinet had fingers in the pies, heck even the PM and his wife at the time was working for silicon valley, probably made a fortune.
