milkshakemoron
I just installed Ubuntu's opporating system on my computer, and I'm trying to connect to the internet through my wireless LAN network. I havea PCI adapter from linksys. My model no. is: wmp11 I honestly have no idea how I can install the driver on ubuntu... I heard you have to install ndiswrapper first, but i can't seem to do that since i cant connect to the internet on that computer! So can i download something from this [my laptop] computer onto a flashdrive.. and then install that onto my desktop? Japlabot
Which version of Ubuntu is it? A lot of recent releases of Ubuntu have improved driver support (Especially for WLAN) out of the box.

Japlabot
I guess that you'd need to find a wired connection to download the drivers or find another WLAN card to use temporarily then.
markwolfe Veteran Posted January 20, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 20, 2008 Unfortunately, manufacturers have a very nasty habit of changing chipsets in their hardware, yet still marketing it as the same model. Driver support is based off of the chipset. If you have a chipset natively supported in Linux, then it would have alredy been detected. ndiswrapper 'cheats' and uses a Windows driver to offer compatibility in Linux. If you need to install something from online, I would recommend just biting the bullet and finding a place where you can connect via cable until you get configured.
