markwolfe Veteran Posted January 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2008 It seems that Ubuntu (via the package manager GUI, synaptic) allows you to select what you want to install and create a script you can bring to another machine with the desired internet connection. (link) However, "updating" is quite a bit more complex, because the scope is all installed packages, and apt will check the versions in the repositories versus what is installed. So, any "offline" update will litereally have to ask for updates on every single app. If this machine is offline and not connected to a network, I don't really see the need to update at all, unless there is a specific app that has an identified bug that is fixed in a new version (and in that case, it would just be back to one package). I don't use compiz, so I can't be specific about that one.
