randomnut
Is there a 3rd party contoller out for the PS3 that is more like the 360 controller? The PS3 one is horribly cheap and tacky, the analogue sticks are awkward to use and the 'trigger' buttons are just awful. Anyone know of any decent 3rd party controllers? DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2008 I would love to hear any suggestions as well, because about 3 days ago I spent about a half an hour online searching and could barely find any 3rd party controllers even worth the web page, never-mind my actually money. I too want one closer to the 360 controller if possible.
Coldgunner
why not try importing a dual shock 3?
crazzyyfool
why not try importing a dual shock 3? I doubt that is good enough for the OP as the DS3 is exactly the same apart from the rumble.
+StevoFC MVC Posted January 21, 2008 MVC Share Posted January 21, 2008 (edited) why not try importing a dual shock 3? Because it's the exact same size/shape? The only difference from what i understand is the weight and rumble ability. otherwise it's exactly the same. look at this weird ass one...I have never used it, but it looks different  http://www.buy.com/prod/nyko-83009-ps3-zer.../203532125.html Edited January 21, 2008 by StevoFC
Cloud Constructors
I agree the sony ps3 controller is the worst aspect of the ps3, sadly
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 21, 2008 Subscriber² Share Posted January 21, 2008 3rd party controllers are usually god awful :/ Controller is fine for me, just a little light. I have been using the PS controllers since 1997 though.
randomnut
Hmm, that Nyko one looks very similar to the original xbox one. The ps3 controller needs a bit of an overhaul: * Rumble (although it's in DS3) * Weight * Analogue stick positioning, needs to be more like the 360, they're useless where they are * Trigger buttons need to be more like actual triggers, not the half assed in between things they've stuck on there * Needs an auto-turn off feature In fact hell they should just enable use of the 360 controller on the PS3, it's by far the nicest controller i've ever used. DS3's are heavier. Also just gotta remember to turn off each controller in the home menu. Not perfect but an easy thing to remember. I normally got my second controller charging while I use the charged one anyway. gonna get a DS3 soon
Antaris Veteran Posted January 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2008 Well, ok, it may not be to your taste, but as I have said before the PS3 controller design hasn't strayed much from the original design on the Playstation, thats got to be saying something. randomnut
The thing was the original PS controller was fit for purpose, and better than anything that came before it. Then the DualShock came along and was also was very good. The thing is now we have had the 360 controller which is a masterpiece in gaming hardware (shame about the console!), it really shows up how dated the PS design really is, and how awkward it is to play with, compared. Also, the PS3 controller is just plain cheap (albeit not in price!) The feel of it is just really tacky, and they've added those trigger buttons which are nigh on impossible to play with for any period of time. Anyone that doesn't have hands the size of a 5 year old must surely agree.
kazuyette
I agree to that ! I played a lot with teh ps1/ps2 and the controller was cool. But the triggers of the ps3 controller are so painful to use .

BGM
heh, looks like im the only one who thinks the 360 controller is clunky and heavy.. also what are the boiled sweet buttons all about?! love the light and floaty ps3 controller :D
kak
I don't get all of the bickering with the 'sixaxis' controller. I prefer the wait of my DualShock3, but the sixaxis is fine. It is almost identical to previous versions and all I see on the internet is that it isn't like the 360 controller. My suggestion? Buy a 360! The triggers are fine [and welcome], the weight is a bit light, and it doesn't feel cheaply made. I don't even know how to address that because it hasn't malfunctioned or broken down in aesthetics in any shape or form.

Sticks are good for FPS games but the d-pad is absolutely evil. The plus for me is I play Pro Evo/Fifa often and I prefer to use the d-pad, something I can't really use on the 360 controller. randomnut
That's a very good point and I agree the d-pad needs some work. I think however it's the only one drawback. In fact check this out, if only they were for sale! http://benheck.com/04-14-2007/ps360-controller/
Corris Veteran Posted January 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2008 3rd party controllers are usually god awful :/ Controller is fine for me, just a little light. I have been using the PS controllers since 1997 though. Same here, I've never had a problem with any of the PS controllers. Maybe its the fact that I have long thin fingers, and my hands are generally thin too, I've never had a trouble with any controller that I've ever used. And can someone explain the analogue sticks being in the wrong place? I've never quite got what people mean, when playing CoD4 for example, my left thumb is moving the character, how by swapping it to where the d-pad is now does it make that much of a difference?Just a questioned I've wondered, hope no one gives me a mouthful for asking. :p

Huleboeren
Only things I hate about the SIXAXIS is: - Triggers should be inverted like on the X360 controller - Needs more weight(probably already there in the DS3) If you feel its awkward in your hands youre just holding it wrong :p You need to let it relax in your hands, not strangle it! ^^ Edited January 21, 2008 by Huleboeren
+StevoFC MVC Posted January 21, 2008 MVC Share Posted January 21, 2008 the controller is just way too small. I can fit literally the entire thing in 1 hand. It's just hard to hold for extended periods of time because it's so small and light. I don't mind it much though if i'm not playing for a long time. bl4ck5un
IMO there is nothing wrong with the controllers, people are just being picky and putting the PS3 down. No, i'm not a fanboy before you 360 fanboys decide to make a jump at me.
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 21, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2008 My biggest beef, besides the triggers being poorly implemented, are the sticks are actually to sensitive. It is almost like the sticks on the 360's controller give the slightest bit of resistance when you try and move them, and therefore you can actually be more precise with less movement, if that even makes any sense to anyone. I know I can change sensitivity, but it is the overall feel of the sticks themselves that feels to sensitive to me, something I cannot change. Now that I think about it, it may be that they are not sensitive enough. Whatever it is I know I do not like it. LOL Keep in mind I mainly play First Person Shooters too, so my gripe about not liking the controller is almost primarily due to this fact. For a game like Stardust, hell even Assassins Creed which I played on the PS3, I have no issue with the controller at all. It is FPS's that only make me dislike the controller as much as I do.
