Is there a better PS3 controller?

Recommended Posts

how did you get the DS3?

imported them. there's actually an import place 2 hours from where i live so i ordered from them online and got my stuff in a couple of days. :)

a mate of mine imported the DS3 from japan, he said its great to have rumble back, but apparently the battery lasts nowhere near as much as the controller without rumble

weird. in my experience the battery life was just as good, if not better, than the sixaxis. maybe your friend just started playing more because he had rumble back, thus making it seem like the battery doesn't last as long. :p

i agree the ps3 controller is the worst out of the current gen consoles, and i hope they updated it this generation. The triggers really are aweful, i'm just glad gt5 doesn't use them for gas/brake, as some games do and **** me off. Never really understood flipping the analog sticks to resemble the 360's, but i don't play fps/rpg's on it. The 360 controller really is comfortable, i got one for the pc, iirc, it's pretty perfect, aside from the d-pad being a little bigger, and the buttons should be a little flatter.

I had a lot of 3rd party PS2 controllers back in the day and lots of them were very poorly made and all ended up either breaking or dying. On the other hand both of my official PS2 controllers never broke or died on me. I hope the 3rd party PS3 controllers are very different.

this is how Sony should redesigned the controller...Sony is dumb for not doing this

It depends though, most of those who complain are those who are used to/have had long exposure to the 360 controller.

There are 120 million PS2 owners that have used this style of pad, and some of them since the PS1.

I myself have no issues with it at all, I prefer the 360 for FPS games but can play them on both - And then anything outside of FPS games I prefer the PS3 controller, as the d-pad on the 360 is practically unusable IMO.

The d-pad above would be almost impossible to use comfortably.

I agree with Hanif, Sony should have redesigned the controller like that. Having the left analogue stick too far down really hurts my wrist.

But it doesnt hurt your right hand wrist? :p

What kind of logic is that?

All the 3rd party PS3 controllers I've seen are complete rubbish! I actually don't mind the PS3 controller, I guess it's more that I'm used to it though :p (been gaming on a PlayStation since PSone) and the only thing I'd change on it, is it's size as it is a little bit on the small side for my hands. The 360 controller on the other hand is perfect, great controller but I'm quite comfortable playing on the Sixaxis on the PS3.

To that pic of how the PS3 controller *should be*, I can't honistly see that working right, the controller was designed around having the thumbsticks in the bottom middle area and it would need to be completely redesigned for that layout to be practical I think.

But surely if you want the left stick moved so that it doesn't hurt your hand or whatever, you would want the right one moved for the same reason? Yet I see no-one suggesting this ... ?

[360 controller image]

That's the perfect layout IMO. TBH I don't usually use the right stick, just the left stick, triggers and buttons. The handles are also curved differently to make it as comfortable as a controller could be.

How do you avoid using the right stick O_o

I'm guessing he never plays any FPS's or any game involving moving the camera, or skate...

I will probably never understand how someone can complain that the left stick is wrong but the right is not.

Skate is a great example of how you use the right analogue all the time, but you never hear anyone complain about it?

Because to do that, they would be complaining about the 360 controller in the same sentence, and it is written into the bible now that the 360 controller is the god of controllers.

Ok I was more or less talking about driving games etc, yeah for FPS I use the left stick a lot but it's in the right position, because you have to move your thumb more often to get to the buttons than you need to move your thumb to get to the D Pad.

And yes, the 360 is the god of all current controllers, IMO. The only people that don't think so are those that have not used it. The PS3 controller is just plain poorly designed. I guess they left it too late to design something after the shambles of the boomerang idea.

Sony already made a redesign of the controller, but people just bitched and complained. If you actually think they'd make it look the exact same as the 360 controller, your delusional.

The ps3 controller is flawless in my eyes, its a thing of perfection.... I like a controller that sits in my hands not a controller i have to hold onto, the 360 controller gives me bad cramp in my hands because you have to hold it, the ps3 one just sits on my fingers.

dont get me wrong, the 360 controller is great, its just not the best.

the only thing I like about the 360 controllers (as I said before) is the concave analog stix

Reason I asked is just ordered mine last night with a $5 code. So mine was $61.60

I got the White one BTW, just figured it would be easier to know which one was Dual Shock and which one was not.

Agreed, though I can play with either controller fine, apart from prolonged on the 360 controller.
