SylentSlayer
hello, recently i got a new dvd-r burner and wanted to know if there is a program that can transfer my WMV files onto a format i can burn onto my cd-r discs so that they can play videos on my playstation 2. Dont care if it does games as i have no reason to burn games. And i tried Video flix already and that one did not work. Just made my playstation make a bad noise and then say it failed to load. Ideas would be very appreciated.
soniqstylz
1) why not burn them onto DVD?
Skyfrog
The PS2 will not read burned media period if I'm not mistaken, though I'm not sure if that includes movies or not. If it does just burn them as DVD format. It would probably require a mod chip though and I'm not sure if such discussion is allowed here so I'm going to go eat my cereal. CelticWhisper
It does read burned media, as I've used it to test DVDs I've made of vacation videos. What it doesn't do terribly well, at least in the case of mine, is read RW burned media. Stick to the write-once stuff as it seems to have trouble with the dye used in rewritables. CelticWhisper
What you'll need to do is convert the videos to MPEG-2 as that is the compression format used in DVD-Video. Once that's done, you can burn them to a (write-once) CD or DVD. One burning program, I think it was either Nero or Toast, had a "mini-DVD" option that would burn a CD in the UDF format used in DVDs and thus allow it to function as a low-capacity DVD. Either way, I'd advise burning with UDF. Then pop it in the console and try. You do definitely need to transcode to MPEG-2, though - the PS2 can't decode WMV. Fred 69
Apart from the dodgy program I used which fudged up the chapter selection I've previously burnt pr0n and watched it on my PS2 on a DVD+RW with no problems.
sn00pie
All my backed up DVD's played amazing on my PS2, the only reason I don't use my PS2 as a DVD player is because I now own a PS3. From CD-R's to DVD-R's the PS2 has no problems whatsoever reading them.
