Foub
My mother just got a new Asus Eee today and I was going to update some of the programs when it asked me for the Administrator Password. I looked around and couldn't find where or how to set it. Could someone please help?

markwolfe Veteran Posted January 24, 2008 Veteran Share Posted January 24, 2008 I googled, and it seems that the Eee uses sudo, much like Ubuntu. I can't be sure that what I found online is right, information isn't very official or clear.
S7un7
I had originally put 'root'. Then continued reading and saw you wanted to know how to set it. The 'passwd' command may help with that.
zivan56
You probably need to set it. Type: sudo passwd and follow the instructions...
Foub
I googled, and it seems that the Eee uses sudo, much like Ubuntu. I can't be sure that what I found online is right, information isn't very official or clear. That would make it difficult to update the programs that come with it, though. I had found out how to change the user password by going to Asus' forums, but as we all know that isn't the same of the administrator password. The site wasn't too much help. You probably need to set it.Type: sudo passwd and follow the instructions... That seems to have done the trick. thanks. You know these little Asus' are pretty neat otherwise. :)
ian_happy
I am thinking of getting the Asus Eee Pc 4GB. But I have some questions. Can you use usb sticks or even usb external hard drives. Can you clock the cpu ? What media files does the media player use does it do avi and does the Asus come with a dvd player funcionality ? I like the idea of getting to grips with linux and the concept of the size of this machine.
