PS3 doing well in Europe

"In December we sold just over a million PlayStation 3s during the month,? he told MCV. ?That?s across all PAL territories and that?s a sell-through figure. About 20-22 per cent of that figure was sold in the UK alone. We?re very happy with the performance of PS3 in the UK.
?We don?t often mention the competition, but I will give you some interesting data: In terms of installed base in some of our major markets, such as France, Spain, Germany and Italy ? plus some distributor territories in smaller markets like Switzerland ? our current cumulative installed base is now higher than Xbox 360.

?It has not yet reached that in the UK. But the team here expect to overtake the installed base of Xbox 360 across all PAL territories in late summer. It?s also worth mentioning that last week we outsold Xbox 360 in PAL territories by a ratio of three to one.?

Personally, I'm obviously glad that the PS3 is doing well as it's my only console, but it makes you wonder. If it had come out 6 months earlier like it should have, maybe it would have been the leader already....

They didn't have the hardware to do a simultanious launch.

But whose fault is that? Certainly not Europe's. It's Sony's. Poor planning by them.

Reeves expects the ps3 to be number 1 in Europe by the end of the summer, hmmm, what game will have been out by the end of the summer..... oh yeah, MGS:4 :D

They can bring out as many games as they want - i'm not buying until they bring out a SKU with backwards compatibility again.....

So you're going to pass up the chance to play a load of awesome games just because you can't play old generation games? Just buy a dirt cheap 2nd hand PS2 and be done with it, or miss out on the good games.

I know which option I'd choose, and in fact I've already made my choice. Even though I own a 60GB Euro PS3 with software backwards compatibility, my PS2 is still hooked up.

Still, your loss.

Thing is, most of these die hard BC people will cave if they genuinely want to play the next generation version of their favourite PS2/PS1 titles.

I've hooked up my PS2 to my setup to finish off Okami, although I recently heard it's coming to Wii which is (Y) (Y)

With Blu-ray playback, ever decreasing prices and an increasing selection of games the PS3 is looking a more attractive proposition. I'm not ready to jump yet but I'm keeping my eye on it. I really want some better games, though - until then I'm very happy with PC gaming.

I just hope not only the PS3 price will decrease but also the price of the games. Would make it a lot more accessible for many people. ( ? 69 for a game is and remains insane )

Why do 'you people' insist on staying in the past? :p

And if youre so bothered with games from the past, why not get a console from the past? Like the Xbox or PS2 or ...gamecube
