CrimsonBetrayal
From your description it could be any number of things. Do you know for sure if your network card is connected to the network at all? Edited January 25, 2008 by CrimsonBetrayal
Foub
From your description it could be any number of things. Do you know for sure if your network card is connected to the network at all? The card is on the same machine for both OSes. He's dual-booting. I'm dual booting Vista and ubuntu but i cant get ubuntu to get connected to my school network which uses resnet. It doesn't connect at all to the internet under Ubuntu? Did you try a different browser, like Opera, and when you say Mozilla do you mean Firefox? He's dual-booting.It doesn't mean that Ubuntu is using the card.Ultomato, boot Ubuntu, and try a sudo ifconfig command, and post the output here. Also, do you know if your computer uses DHCP to get its network info? Or does it use a static IP? If it is static, you need to copy your config from your Windows settings. Also, it is not 100% clear to me. Are you on a computer at school, and having problems with all network connection? Or is this computer at home, and you have problems accessing your school's network? Did you try installing JAVA through Ubuntu's ADD/REMOVE or Synaptic? Or going through VISTA and manually downloading the latest JAVA for Linux and then transferring it to Ubuntu by way of a Flash drive then installing it? Now what do i do? You put it on your hd and double click on it like you would an exe file in windows, though you may have to edit permissions (right click on file itself and choose properties) and click on box next to execute to get it to run first. Ultomato
ok i put the x64 java bin file(its probably the right one because i installed the x64 version of opensuse) on the desktop and the box next to execute is checked but it doesnt do anything when i double click. And when i right click open it gives me a blank konquerer window.

Ultomato
theres a 4.1 gb download and a 700 mb download of open suse. would the 4.1 have java preinstalled? if not what distributions have java/java plugin for firefox preinstalled? i read somewhere i had to get blackdown version of java to make it work with 64 bit mozilla but i cant find download links because they stopped developing. Are there alternatives?
Ultomato
what the duece....so i installed 32 bit open suse opened firefox and bam the internet works without having to download any java or resnet software. Could it be because i logged on to ResNet on windows and rebooted into opensuse, keeping me logged in on the same IP or something?
