For those of you who felt gypped by not being able to get a US version of the MGS Anniversary Collection, it seems that Konami is throwing you something of a bone. PlayAsia is currently taking pre-orders for Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection for the PS2 that includes the original Metal Gear Solid as well as the directors cut of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. The listed price is $34.90 plus a $4 dollar shipping charge. If you are looking to delve into the world of MGS before MGS 4 comes out, this is the perfect way to do it at a reasonably low price.

Good price for the 1st three games, especially if you haven't played them!

awe man, this is just what I was looking for!

I played the 1st one but never the 2nd and 3rd. I looked for them on e-bay a few months back but each game was $20+ (too much IMO).

$40 for all 3 games is just the kind of deal I like ^_^

ps:

does anyone know if the 60gb PS3 beable to play these back? Not sure how well the BC is (even though it is hardware-based right?)

I have played all three of the original games on it, MGS1, 2, 3 and 3 Subsistence - all worked with minor issues (cutscenes flickered sometimes)

the 60 gb ps3 in the US is fully backwards compatible, so it should be able to play this.

Ah indeed, forgot to add that - I played all of those games on a 60GB EU "crippled" PS3 - everything was playable on my end

Hopefully no one imported, as the price in the USA is actually CHEAPER!

Metal Gear Solid: Essential Collection - $29.99

Contains:

* Metal Gear Solid

* Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance

* Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

That is a STEAL for $30. Especially as MGS2 Substance (PS2) is fairly rare and costs a lot to buy - http://search.ebay.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-2-...Q3aQ20Substance

NO excuse if you haven't played MGS before not to pickup now.

They should've made MGS: Essential for PS3 on Blue Ray with all three games in one disk like valve did. Also they should optimize it for PS3 with HD textures at least I would've paid $59.99 easy, that game would've sold a lot too.

Sadly I doubt they have enough time to do that whilst working on MGS4 :(

The best they have done is include MS1/2/3 cutscenes (upscaled/visually improved?) in MGS4 flashbacks to remind you of things.
