New icon themes for Firefox 3 under XP and OS X

Recommended Posts

I'm not too crazy about the back/forward for XP, I think it looks out of place. I don't really see a point of including it on the browser build for that OS if they're bothering to make a separate version in the first place. I'll probably be using an updated version of my current Fx theme Qute, when 3.0 is released.

For Vista I think it looks "OK". At least it goes along with the general feel of the OS. I agree with others though: the stop button looks odd.

Question for anyone with the nightly build: are the new back/forward icons for the "large" size only?

Check the home pages for each of your extensions and find out if they have 3.0 Beta compatible builds before you install. I'd recommend backing up your profile folder before installing a beta build as well. That way, if something doesn't work right, you can uninstall the beta build and reinstall a stable version then restore your profile.

Seriously it is quite ridiculous to have RC versions of Beta. It is messing the traditional software life cycle. What's all this nonsense. Are we in the future going to have Beta 1 of RC 1 of Beta 2 of Firefox 3.0?

Everything transparent? I don't think so, that would not be nice at all. I think they should just develop their own look and stand out, something sexy. Sort of like how WMP11 stands out from xp. It'd be good for brand recognition as well.

Oh, and there's something that I would beg them to do. Every skin out there falls into 2 categories, one where the bookmarks toolbar has an icon, and one that doesn't. You can achieve a nice minimalistic look with the latter. They should have an option that toggles the icons. Sometimes I find some nice skins, but I hate those icons, so I don't use them, I end up sticking with mac inspired themes due to their minimalism.

These aren't supposed to be used by the public.

Beta 3 is.

These builds are for testers to pinpoint regressions or add more fixes to bake them before Beta 3 is done.

They are making sure the beta's don't have major crashing bugs and such.

The beta's don't get updated like the nightlies, a major crashing bug in a beta would force them to release a new beta, which could be averted by a bit of testing.

I'd like it more transparent (similar to explorer) in Vista, personally.

I just tried the lastest nightly on Linux. It looks really nice, although I use KDE, unlike XP. I wish the "search history" feature worked -still can't search for pages that contain a phrase.

Any chance you could get a screenshot of the latest nightly on Linux please? I'd love to see what those icons are like.

They use GTK icons if your using GNOME so basically the icons from your theme.

The latest nightly uses the icons from your GTK theme just like, for example, Epiphany would.

Firefox 2 in Vista currently is pretty ugly. IE7 just feels and looks better right now. I hope Firefox 3 improves. They said they want to look better than IE in Vista, I can't wait to see.

I also have a theme like that, but better ;)

ScreenshotofmyIEtheme.jpg

It's called 'Vista-aero 2.0.0.11' and it looks amazing like IE7. I don't use it anymore, as I have a better darker theme which suits Vista more, but that theme is definately the best if you want to get your Firefox to look like IE7.

Anyway, back on topic for me... lol

Well, I'm using it, and the XP theme isn't as terrible as everyone seems to want it to be. It certainly compliments the new 3.0 Location bar.

I certainly like the combined backforward button, over the separate buttons; the combined drop down menu is really slick.

It's called Vista Black 1.0

Search it in Google or something as it isn't on the official Firefox Add-ons website.

I like the colors and tab bar, but the icons are Really low quality and blurry. :x

The new theme for Windows XP is like looking back 5-6 years as far as the icons are, it's horrible. I don't think that I can stand the new theme, how can I tell other people to use this browser when it looks like it came out of the Windows 98 era?
