The Cell Broadband Engine, used to power Sony?s PlayStation 3 console, will be migrated from its previous 65 nm version to a more compact 45 nm model. Beyond the gaming industry however, this may also help advance different fields of study as the Cell Broadband Engine is also used in areas such as medicine, software and architecture.

The small chip area size will have a more efficient power consumption rate of up to 40% lower compared to its predecessor. They are also looking into improving the design for manufacturability for Cell to simplify the CPU production process.

Well right now the CPU is already 65nm and the GPU is 90nm it's probably not long that the GPU goes down to 65nm if there already talking about 45nm CPU.

Man soon there going to be making next to no heat.

we're starting to hit the physical limits of a silicon chip. Afaik it's ~30nm

Yes they will hit a wall sooner or later, I think they plan to go to 32nm eventually and it will probably stay at that for a while.

With 32nm CPU and GPU on the PS3 there is no doubt they could make a slim PS3 with that.

I want a better gfx card

The only way you can modify a console to be better is in the manufacturing process: cheaper, quieter, cooler.

Upgrading a graphics card goes 100% against console design!

Also the graphical capabilities of the PS3 are great.
