Dark_Alex releases custom PSP Firmware v3.90 M33

Recommended Posts

Ok, Guys.

I'm confused.

Would it just be easier for me to buy this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-PSP-PANDORA-BAT...1QQcmdZViewItem

Remember, I'm running 3.80 Currently.

looks like it yeah.

the current firmware your running is irrelevant for the battery, as it uses reverse engineered software from leaked sony software that is used to restore bricked psp's.

Edit: Ah! It just came to me. So I can't do it without either something like that above, or someone with a 1.50 firmware or already modded PSP.

Yeah you need the memory stick with files and battery, both of which you can't do on your PSP.

You'll need to find someone to do it for you, or buy both the memory card with files on it & battery.

Might cost you a bit - http://search.ebay.co.uk/pandora-battery_W...dZm37QQfromZR40

You have two options - Buy both bundled and ready to go (looks to cost up to ?30 on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Psp-Pandora-Battery-...QQcmdZViewItem )

Or pay someone to do it with your own battery/memory card (around ?10) - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pandora-Battery-Magi...1QQcmdZViewItem

Shame you don't know anyone near you with a CFW PSP, as it seems pretty easy to do and wouldn't cost you anythin:/:/

I've just read up on the pandora's battery, and when you "restore" the battery, it restores the serial to 1234567... Would it be possible for Sony to detect that in the future? And if so, what would they do about it?

Sony have "allowed" CFW to go on for ages.

At one point they even allowed talk of it on the official forums.

It helps sell their PSPs :p

As for the battery, nothing to worry about. The PSP is unbrickable now.

And if you're that paranoid about the battery, convert one to a pandora and leave it at that. Use another battery to run your PSP.

^

Most people do that anyway, as if in the future they ever somehow brick their PSP, they can restore it easily.

I haven't read much on the whole PSP-PS3 connectivity, but ...

My router even supports the PS3, so that if it is off, I can remotely turn it on with the PSP over the internet (and turn it off of course). Obviously the PS3 needs to be on standy to allow this.

^^ That is freaking sweet.

I notice the ones on ebay are using old versions of the software; will it be upgradeable when it's installed?

Yeah any PSP either on normal firmware 1.5, or ANY CFW can be upgraded.

Basically,

Official Firmwares

Only 1.5 can go to CFW.

Custom Firmware

Any firmware can be updated to the latest (3.90 M33).

I still can't get SNES and SMS plus working on 3.80 M33-5...

Fat or Slim?

Best snes emulator for slim! Tested 3 different snes9xTYL

I've tested 3 different Snes9xTYL

This is for SLIM and not Phat, If you only have Phat,

this thread will be useless for you.

So having read the last few pages, i could buy a SLIM psp new and use pandora and downgrade it to 1.5. From there i could do M33 stuff? Would i be able to use originnal software as well, does m33 coninsist with originnal software or ontop of it and what beifits does it have ?

Yes.

M33 is the original Sony firmware with extra stuff added on top, so everything an official firmware 3.9 user can do, you can do and more!

That is why everyone says CFW makes the PSP what it should be ;)

As a fellow UKer any recommendations for where to get a psp and recommended price.

Ebay is usually not a bad bet if you don't mind using it - Just make sure you don't buy from Singapore/Hong Kong/ect if you want a warranty!

http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=dettag...;codart=PSPSL02

http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=dettag...;codart=PSPSL00

White & Black, shopto prices are pretty good and free postage is good - A lot on ebay are actually priced the same as shopto/higher.

Amazon isn't bad either.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B...9634&sr=8-1

It's really up to how much you want to spend.

If you don't mind getting a "fat" PSP, you can probably buy one for a good % cheaper than a slim - As the slim is pretty new.

For a slim it looks like you'll pay ?100+ for a new model, maybe under ?100 if you go second hand.

you wouldn't downgrade to 1.5. You would use pandora to go right to the CFW. As currently anyway, we don't have a way for 1.5 to run on the slim PSP's (though that looks like it may change soon).

like boxer said if u dont mind getting a phat u can get it nice and cheap...i would say this isnt a bad idea either as the only real advantage a slim has is slightly faster loading times...but its not like you havnt got any time on your hands if your gonna be playing games anyway!

You can't use Skype on a fat either though.

Only the slim can run it!

I have a feeling 1.50 kernal for Slim is coming soon :woot:

I still run on OE CFW. Call me a n00b but M33 has so many bugs and all its just not funny anymore. OE is the stablest CFW to date (3.03 to be precise), and i can still play the latest games with a Firmware spoofer. I don't really care for the features that Sony has release thus far in Official Firmware.

Mate that is complete FUD.

At first some of the M33 revisions weren't as stable, but to run on 3.03 YOU are really limiting yourself.

Dark Alex makes M33, same guy, same firmwares, different name.

M33 may see a few revisions here and there (3.80 M33-5 anyone? :p), but that is mostly down to the amount of extra stuff Sony has added to the firmware and DA getting it right.

Latest M33 has popsloader as well if you play PSX games and require to emulate an older pops for compatibility, plus the 1.5 kernel works on fats. 3.03 OE does not have a popsloader and can not emulate higher versions of pops (some PSX games require 3.71, it was quite a stable pops, one which notably worked well with all the FF's).

If you're interested in themeing/any sort of remote play with a PS3 you also need the newer M33 revisions.

So I finally got a Slim PSP (Yay! :D) and I am going to use the pandora battery method to install CFW on it. From what I understand it is possible to copy my UMDs to my memory stick so I dont have to carry all my games around. But from what I have read, if I understood it correctly, there are some problems with 3.80 & 3.90 and doing this? Something about it loading slowly. I could use 3.71 but I think I need at least 3.80 to do remote play with my PS3. Does anyone have some suggestions on which version I should use for everything to work best?

Thanks!

I've not heard about issues with 3.80 or 3.90 with isos/csos - Anyone else confirm? I'm playing CSO files fine on 3.90.

Use the Sony NP9660 setting - Think M33 might default to this, but it check it by pushing "select" when on the XMB.

Also grab YACC - http://www.playstationupdates.com/18414_Ya...3_Released.html

Compresses ISO files to CSO files which will save you space on your memory stick.

Congrats on purchase, use 3.80 or 3.90 - I'd go with 3.90 so you have skype support! Remote play is cool :)

3.80 Here :o) Slim. Traded my GAME points in ( hardely worth it) and got it 2day.

Congrats what did you pay overall?

And for you new owners, I recommend spending the ?5 or so on a screen protector! (theinvisible> thin layers you put on top of the screen)

I've had one on mine since I bought it and for comparison my mate hasn't - His screen is still crystal clear, but it's covered in scratches!

ive got some crazy stuff going on with my screen like there appears to be spots underneath the outside layer??? don't quite understand how that works...and no matter how hard i try it will never be fully clean. any idea how to get it clear enough so its worth putting a screen protector on?

Picture?

I'd be taking that back, sounds like it may be dead pixels!
