WelshBluebird
Right after my issues with ubuntu (and a couple of other distros) I stumbled upon Sam linux. Its based off PClinuxOS (which I have heard good things about), but uses XFCE (which is good for me as it uses less resources than KDE or gnome). Have installed it to my hard drive, and it works fine. Except for one thing. I can only log in as the root user. No matter how many users I create, when I try to log in as another other than root, it goes through the "loading window manager" bit, but I am then presented with a black screen with the mouse curser. I can move it, but thats it. The root user however, works fine (thats what I'm posting this from now). Any ideas? Thanks
mitch00
Hmm... Try killing the xserver, then as a regular user type startx. See if X starts up normally that way.

Or.. copy the /root/.xinitrc file to your home directory and use startx and see how far that gets you.
